An interview posted on Amazon: "I have finished reading Roy Haws book, "Brushy Bill...Just Another Billy the Kid Tall Tale?" Here's my review I had posted on Amazon: "Anyone who has studied the history of William H. Bonney aka Billy the Kid, from amateur history enthusiasts to notable historians, we've all heard the Billy the Kid myths and conspiracy theories that range from slightly plausible to downright ridiculous. No other Billy the Kid myth has gotten as much attention and has deceived many people than the absurd notion that Billy the Kidâs death was a hoax and that he really lived to be an old man. The one man that laid the biggest claim to that conspiracy theory is Brushy Bill Roberts. Brushyâs claim was exposed to the general public in C.L. Sonnichsen and William Morrisonâs book, âAlias Billy the Kidâ (1955) and it snowballed from there." "Thanks to the movie âYoung Guns 2â (1990), it brought attention to Brushy Bill Roberts to a new generation that was so caught up in the Hollywood romanticized Billy the Kid that they couldnât accept the truth of their hero getting killed. So with the seed planted, a slew of âBrushy Believersâ began preaching their theories on websites, social media, books, television, and worse of all, a museum in Hico, Texas dedicated to raising awareness that Brushy Bill Roberts was indeed Billy the Kid. Even Brushy Billâs headstone has an inscription âBilly the Kidâ to further deceive the public that he was the famous New Mexico outlaw. I shudder to think how many tourists were easily fooled out of ignorance." "The myth and lies of Brushy Bill Roberts has been the subject of heated debates for years and almost lead to the exhumations of graves for DNA testing, but thatâs a topic for another debate. Anyways, no matter how much historical facts and just plain common sense proved otherwise, Brushy Believers stood firm and would counter with delusional theories that even exceeded the imagination of Brushy Bill himself." "That may now come to an end." "Roy Haws, author of âBrushy BillâŚJust Another Billy the Kid Tall Tale,â has compiled enough evidence to discredit Brushy Bill Robertâs claims and finally put this debate to rest once and for all. What makes this book unique from other books out there discrediting Brushy Bill, is that Roy is the great-great nephew of Brushy Bill Roberts and therefore has access to family records, documentation, and testimony from family members. Along with Royâs painstaking research and documentation of the genealogy and origin of Brushy Bill, he also debunks Brushyâs many claims, from his colorful stories to his outright lies. Roy counters and extinguishes every conspiracy theory put out by Brushyâs supporters. I donât think even the staunchest Brushy Believer can refute the abundance of evidence in this book." "Anyone with an open-mind who questions if Oliver Roberts alias Brushy Bill Roberts is Billy the Kid, must read this book. If you already know Brushy was a fraud, this is a good source to have in your collection to use as reference in your debates with Brushy Believers. Then again, if Brushy Believers still exists after this book then they truly are a lost cause and not worth the effort." "Thank you Roy Haws for your hard work on debunking Brushy Bill Roberts." It didn't take very long to read to the bottom of the review to see that you are someone who is known in the Billy the Kid research world. Also identified at the top of the review: M. Brothers Detailed information that discredits Brushy Bill Roberts and proves what a fraud he was Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2015 ~Marcelle Brothers of www.aboutbillythekid.com

Half of your site is clearly anti-Brushy bashing, calling him a crazy old fool and other things to degrade him, what a shame. And by the way Fred Nolan dont got all the answers sorry, you talk about him like hes some kind of god. Calling somebody a crazy old fool does not make you more credible, on the contrary it makes you look desperate.

If Brushy wasn't Billy why do people need to make anti-Brushy websites and write books about him being a liar?. It's the effort of the anti-Brushy squad that makes me trust Brushy more. Why do they desperately try to keep proving something that's already been proven? I don't know why history changing scares people.

Are you a dedicated genealogist who is scared of the possibility of Billy the Kidâs history being rewritten? Wayne created this forum for people to talk about Brushy without having to defend him. I'm sorry if I sound rude but your constant long posts with your huge arsenal of facts lead me to believe I'm not even allowed to think Brushy Bill Roberts could be Billy the Kid.

In the Eulogy section there is a part from Frank Lobato, of whom Burshy says he left with on the fateful night in question. Anybody have any insight into this, references, etc?

I'd have to look it up again to give you the source, etc. but I remember one source said Lobato wasn't even there that night in Fr. Sumner and then another is on record that Lobato "was" there. I always wondered why he would lie on one occasion and say he wasn't even there and I figure it's because he didn't want anyone to know he had helped Billy escape. That whole business is one of the reasons I believe Brushy's story.

Thanks Wayne, that really is a big piece of the puzzle for me as well and as you alluded to the site does indicate Frank wasn't even in Ft. Sumner, but to be able to verify either side of that, if he was in Ft. Sumner, adds some credibility to Brushy, if he wasn't that is rather damaging considering he said he rode off with him and he was wounded. I'm sure there are decedents of Lobato out there and wonder if he ever spoke about BTK, etc.

Was he or wasn't he there, it's 50/50 but choose the one that benefits your side of the scenario....

A source in an article interviewed by Jack Hull in 1938, It reads that Frank Lobato wasnât there, but his mother was, Frank Lobato corroborated Jesus Silvaâs accounts of the shooting in that interview. He claimed his mother Marie Lobato told him what happened when he returned to Fort Sumner a short time later. Frank Lobato apparently was at a ranch southwest of Melrose called the Old Pig Pen Ranch, he also mentioned that Billy had spent a month at that Old Pig Pen Ranch also sometime shortly before the shooting, this interview is in the Clovis News July 13 1938 www.newspapers.com/clip/3448349/billy-the-kidjesus-silvafrank/

Thanks for sharing that. I've seen that before and I think he was lying when he told that interviewer he wasn't there. I can't find the specific interview but Jesus Silva is said to have stated Lobato was there and I believe Lobato himself said he was there in a different interview. Not sure though! Maybe some of you expert sleuths can find those quotes as well.
The point is, "if" he lied about not being there then he must have had a reason to lie. It makes sense the reason would be to avoid being charged with helping a convicted man escape capture.
