Seems like I might have seen this photo before. If I remember right, it was a photo of when they put the gravestone on Billy's grave sometime around the 1930's. I don't believe this is a photo of the actual burial.

Thanks for the reply. You might be correct, and I do believe the man in the overalls is Jesus Silva, Billy's friend who Billy stayed with the night he was killed.

Jesus Silva was my great great grandfather, and yes, I believe that is a picture of him in the overalls.

Hello Stephanieb,
Good to see you post.
I think you are right. If I remember right, the men are Charlie Foor, Jesus Silva, Vicente Otero and Poco Anaya. (Annlla)
Do you live in New Mexico and how much of the history do you know?
Thanks, nmjames

Can anyone ID these men, sorry about poor quality. This is my rare postcard allegedly showing the real Billy the Kid. Maybe this was the photo Brushy made with the Jones boys up in Dodge City. These people look familiar tho. I

McKinley412 Strange, I have this same postcard but on mine the man far left sitting in front of Billy the Kid looks to have on a different suit jacket than in your photo, I wonder why?, Also , I don't know where I read it but the same man could be Dave Rudabaugh?,

I don't know who's who in the photo in question, but quite some time ago, that first photo was being discussed as the three standing, left to right, were said to be Belle Starr, Bat Masterson, and Luke Short with the three seated being Jesse James, Billy The Kid, and Wyatt Earp. I believe I was the first to suggest that if Billy was in that photo, he had to be the one standing on the left. I was basically ridiculed for even suggesting the person might not be a woman. It's very interesting that someone else is now picking out that person as being Billy.
I also don't think the one seated on the left could be Jesse.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that photo was discussed before, I just assumed the one standing far left was supposed to be Billy because of the age, and the only one without a mustache, the postcard states it was Billy before he became an outlaw I figured that would make him in his teens?, so I didn't figure him to have a mustache?, if it was authenticated by someone somewhere to be Belle Starr then I will believe Billy The Kid is not pictured at all, his name only used to sell postcards, I may be ridiculed too? I don't believe the man sitting is The Kid, unless its another Billy The Kid?, or a man mistaken for him?

I agree totally, the man sitting is not Billy. But don't apologize. I was pleased that someone else thought that could be Billy standing on the left. I still think it could be him. I compared the face using my tracing technique and there's a pretty good match with Brushy and/or Billy. And I don't see any resemblance to other photos of Belle Starr.

Sorry to disagree with you guys on this one, but that's a woman in that pic. If that is billy than he is in drag, which opens up a whole new can of worms!

Look at this extremely bizarre page I just found on Billy the Kid. Some of the photos do resemble the person they are identified as but when it comes to Billy the Kid they got about 6 different people they are identifying as Billy. Very strange to think someone took the time to do all this. It was fun though. jessejamesphotoalbum.com/billy-the-kid/

mckinley412, You have stumbled upon one of many out to make a buck. Old photos at flea markets are cheap. Label subjects in photos as famous historical characters and sell. Suckers are plentiful. This was another source, now apparently closed, of bogus historical pictures. "The Ellison Collection which can be seen at www.theellisoncollection.com . The Jesse James portion of the collection has been verified by Jesse James expert and James family confidant Phillip W. Steele. It has been featured in many print publications and on The History Channel's documentary Jesse James' Hidden Treasure and is currently on permanent display at the Ray County Museum in the heart of Jesse James Country at Richmond, Missouri." The reputation of Ron Pastore is well known. Jesse Woodson James was killed by Bob Ford in St Jo, MO, in 1882. Jeremiah M. James was promoted as Jesse James by Ron Pastore. James Lafayette Courtney was promoted as Jesse James by Betty Dorsett Duke. Senator William Andrew Clarke was promoted as Jesse James by Ralph Epperson. Jacob Benjamin Gerlt was promoted as Jesse James by Vincel Simmons. J. Frank Dalton claimed to be, and was promoted as, Jesse James, by Orvus Lee Howk. William John James claimed to be Jesse James. He was placed in a mental institution. All fakes.
