It is proven fact of life that truth can be stranger than fiction - Brushy's version of his escape from Lincoln jail and Fort Sumner no one else thought of -or imagined...because he was there -it was his reality. We are the ones that can only imagine what happened.

He also somehow miraculously managed to fill in the gaps and correct the parts where Saga got things wrong. Thats not bad for an illiterate old peasant. If, on the other hand, since Brushy was about 2 years old during the Lincoln County war, the "gaps" he filled came from his imagination. Man, this Brushy guy get more creative and smarter every time we bring his name up! The guy could sure use the right brain effectively.

Well, I wouldn't question the intelligence of Billy The Kid. He may or may not have been of superior intellect. Right brain wise, that is.

Anyone ever heard / looked into the rumour Brushy used the alias William Tucker and was married to a woman from Fredericksburg, and lived in Topeka, Kansas for a while?

Anyone ever heard / looked into the rumour Brushy used the alias William Tucker and was married to a woman from Fredericksburg, and lived in Topeka, Kansas for a while? Looking into it on a census site and there’s a few William Tuckers listed with birthplaces including Missouri (b. 1876), Kentucky (b. 1865, ), Indiana (no birth year that I can see), Kansas (b. 1860), Iowa (b. 1861, married April 1884 Springfield Township), and another Missouri birth in 1860. There are a fair few more to go through but those are ones that (on first glance at least) don’t have dates of death listed.

In this interview from 1935 Brushy details some aspects of his life story. From this information we can establish Brushy was cetainly not Oliver Pleasant. Roberts.

Also, how would a broke man living barely on the breadline know anything about Shetland, let alone that it existed, unless he'd been there or had some sort of connection (familial or otherwise) to it? It's almost off the map it's so remote. That's what makes me believe there's credibility to his story.

View AttachmentIn this interview from 1935 Brushy details some aspects of his life story. From this information we can establish Brushy was cetainly not Oliver Pleasant. Roberts. Wrong. All it means is a man told similar stories in earlier life as he did in later life. And the older he got the more embellished they got. But, it is cool to see him featured in articles decades prior to him coming out allegedly as Billy The Kid. For a man supposedly wanting to remain hidden because of who he allegedly was he seemed to be quite the attention seeker.
