I love this post. And could not agree more! I have always believed brushy was Billy the kid and the more I discover and learn the more I know it to be the truth I hope we can prove it and prove to the world that brushy was billy and he can get the respect he deserves in death as he could not get it in life. What a life he must have led amazing . Rest in peace Billy the kid.

One thing is, and I give the credit to another member of the forum for locating the document, McKinley 412 I think is the name, there is a document from Secret Service Agent Azariah Wild who was sent to investigate Billy the Kid and others for passing counterfeit bills in Lincoln County in 1880. Seems Wild sent a telegram to Bob Ollinger clearly stating that the Kid's Christian surname was William Roberts. I have missed this info. Where is the thread about this? What is the source for this?

This seems like solid proof! I find it difficult to read all the letters here, could you make everything out? Please transcribe!

Sent from New Orleans, LA January 1880. Received at Santa Fe January 6, 1880. Received by, Robert Ollinger. Surnames: William Roberts; Anton Chico*; John Chisum; Beaver Smith; they have counterfeits passed them by Wilson and probably will be there soon they are. Azariah W. Wild by partly loot. *Anton Chico is a census-designated place in New Mexico. Wilson likely means Billy Wilson. Its the William Roberts who married Sallie Chisum, not Brushy, I guess I got over exited, It talks about it in Lily Klasner's book

Yeah, in this letter it clearly states William Roberts. So there is no reason to believe Azariah is referring to the future husband of Sallie Chisum.
Yet one possibility could be they were in fact the same person. Brushy was perhaps married to Sallie Chisum but for some reason he wanted to keep Morrison in the dark about that little detail?

Are you serious? No offense Chivato, but I just read through the book you are talking about and it has both Billy Wilson and Doc Skurlock dying in gun battles long before they died. I do not find the book credible. That William Roberts is Billy the Kid. Do your homework correctly, its not the same Billy Wilson. Read the book instead going trough it like road runner. Its a foul ball let it go, you and Ron live in a fantasy land and you are making us look bad. Wise up!

Im just thinking out loud here. A little brainstorming can be beneficial sometimes. But why could it not be possible? After all, this german fellow, what do we even know about him? If Billy wanted to hook up with Sallie they may have thought it best to claim he was a german immigrant, in order to conceal his identity?
But aside from this crazy theory, I still dont know why we should conclude Azariah wasnt talking about Billy? Because of something Lily Klasner said? Why should we trust her? I mean we know Billy was involved in counterfeiting.

Yes Billy did liked Sallie but it did not happened, and if I remember correctly William Robert almost got arrested because of that 100$ bill, its just common sense. And why should we trust Lily? Dude she was there, what would she had to gain for inventing stories? Sorry if I sound mean its not my objective.

As I understand Lily got some help with her autobiography by Maurice Fulton and Eric Bruce. Perhaps they made some mistakes in their guidance?

An interesting point for discussion could be the dates. The telegram is dated 6th jan 1880. Sallie Chisum and William Robert weren't married until Jan 26th 1880, then moved to South Spring. Was Robert already in the employ of Chisum pre marriage? This info may be widely known, just asking to flesh out the story.
