Okay, I will say this. The gun that is being auctioned off is a single-action colt .44. It has wooden grips. Pat claimed to have a pearl-handled single action .44 like Brushy says that he Billy owned. Since Pat is known for lying anyway, we know he lied about Ollinger's shotgun being destroyed by the Kid among other things, it is possible that he hid the Kid's gun and perhaps lost it in a gambling game, and while I am not saying that is not a gun owned by Pat at one time in his life, of course, he did not kill Billy Bonney or Roberts with it. He killed Billy Barlow, I believe. The distinctive gun on the floor of Maxwell's bedroom was used as a spurious proof of death...the three lawmen specifically referring to the "self-cocker" the same rare pistol Siringo witnessed being auctioned off to the County Clerk for 20 dollars .This gun was either .38 or .41 - not the ubiquitious .44-40 ...not only was the ammo. scarce for this 1878 gun -the lockwork was notoriously weak.

Pictures of the Garrett Colt show its,Army length barrel -7.5 in...imagine Pat sitting on the bed (or in a chair) slowly trying to clear leather and bring that long barrel up near the line of sight - with a gun pointing in his direction...Pat must have had nerves of steel to then aim the pistol at the shadowery figure standing only a few yards away....or maybe he flinched. One thing for sure(contrary to Pat's account) he was first out the door -not Pete Maxwell.

Don't Look Now, but what R the Odds that William Ware Jr ("Mac") Brazel, the Lincoln County Sheep Rancher who Discovered the 'UFO Crash' on 14 Jun 1947, may be Related 2 Jesse Wayne Brazel, the Sheep Rancher who shot & killed Pat Garrett in Doña Ana County, 29 Feb 1908.
...Brushy Bill & Brashy Brazel equal Brash Billies, no Billy-Goatin' about it. The Locals in Hico had it all turned around & all wrong: "Brushy Bill" actually was 'Brash Billy.' And Brash Billy was Brazen, as were the 2 Brazels. Talk about 'Young Guns,' I bet Billy's single-shot Army Colt 44 and Jesse Wayne Brazel's double-action Pistola are worth more than Pat Garrett's Brazen Billy-Barlow Bla$t-in-the-Dark.
The "U shot the wrong guy, Pat" shot-&-gun purchase was a $6-Million-Dollar Mistake. Brash Billy was the Real McCoy; Pat Garrett was a Huckleberry, and Brazen Wayne Brazel knew it, same as Brash Billy knew it, too.
How Ironic that Joe Hines/Jesse Evans resurfaced in Pensacola, Pat Garrett's former hometown, before he ran away from his wife & kids 2 Lincoln County, @ 1877.
*How Ironic: William Ware 'Mac' Brazel had a daughter named Jessie, and they lived in Tularosa, in Lincoln County of course.
