It certainly appears to be friendly at least, but we cant be certain this is even them. I think there is a fairly high degree of similarity with the authenticated Billy tintype but im not convinced. Its a different angle but I imagine it would fit pretty closely if you just turned the face a bit. We need to establish provenance first and in order to do that someone must get that book where the photo is taken from I guess.

Paulita Maxwell said the authenic tin type was a bad likeness - didn't do him justice.Taken accross from Beaver Smith's -was the photo taken before or after BTK started drinking ? He looks out of it.. Yet this shabby picture is hailed as the be all and end all of BTK....not so -he was better than .

There’s no mention of where it was taken, its in the book a couple times, Theres another photo in the book also owned by the estate of Tom McGrath of a pr. of handcuffs that weigh about three pounds, very heavy looking, I don’t know if they are the ones actually worn by the Kid? I found an article about the McGrath family- www.newspapers.com/clip/7909574/uncle-tom-mcgraths-ancestral-history/

This photo with Garrett kind of looks like a just slightly better looking version of the same guy being depicted in the authenticated tin type.

It's definitely a cool photo. I'm open to believing this is Billy and Oat Garrett but the height difference doesn't look all that much. How tall was Oatsy? I thought he was 6'4?

It's a shame we can't see their feet, but looking at proportions, Oat could be standing a good bit nearer the camera / downhill.

Well Ron - maybe I should give up while Iam ahead....was it enough for Pat to fake BTK's death for Brushy to stay out of the lime light for so long and not go on a photo shoot to expose Pat as a fraud and laughing stock of New Mexico ? Being condemned to death was,a powerful incentive to stay quiet in the US....but BTK for some reason hung around Fort Sumner quite fearlessly - did Pat Garrett have an ace up his sleeve to ensure BTK's co operation after he had once again -for the forth time - failed to kill him ? Was there information Brushy kept to himself until death - that was off the table for Morrison and any attempt for a pardon....perhaps what Brushy didn't say may be more important than what he did ... Morrison was related to the Maxwell's. Perhaps he was so ashamed of what Pete did that he pushed the brushy story to deflect the fact that his relative stabbed the kid in the back. Invent a story that Billy didn't die and remove the shame of his families actions.

I don’t remember where I read it?, it may have been in the book “To hell on a fast horse” that mentioned because of Pat Garrett’s height it was hard for him to find store bought pants to fit him, so Pat would sew material onto the bottom of his pants, and looking at the photo it looks like material is either sewn onto the bottom of his pants or the pants have wide cuffs?

And looking at the photo, no one knows who it is.

Interesting! I agree it does actually look like there is extra material on the bottom of the pants. This does not show on the photo posted in this thread since its cropped, but if you google the book you'll find the full photo. Would be most interesting to see if that feature is visible on Garrett's pants in other photos aswell?

In my opinion it wouldnt be no stretch that there is 6 or 7 inches in height difference between the persons depicted. That seems about right.

This is a great photo, and it looks like them too. Another great one is the one Billy lying on some rock on a hill, we've discussed it briefly before, it would be nice if it would have some kind of a provenance 😀

I'm voting Yes. It's Billy and O.G There is remarkable resemblance and the origin of the photo suggests it may have some provenance. If someone could contact that family who provided the photo we might get a better understanding of its provenance.

I think that could be Billy, but I can't see how the other guy is anywhere near tall enough to be Garrett. Keep in mind a big part of the reason for Garrett's height was that he had very long legs. I don't see that here.
