Much has been made of how Brushy wove himself into so many pieces of the history of the southwest. This was one of my problems with him. During my own brief army career i met several 18nyr olds with 20 years of experience. However, each time i gave up on him i located information that showed logical connections. One example. Brushy rode for Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. Brushy was an actor in silent films. Buffalo Bill produced the traveling show and movies. If you could ride a horse and were nearby, doing both was not a difficult achievement. In the same way, Being with the Ruff Riders was not a tuff gig to get. At the time, it was common gossip that many of the volunteers had back stories that would not stand scrutiny. Lots of outlaws is the idea. These are exactly the types of jobs you would be confined to and drawn to if you were Billytk. Thanks.

I understand the difficulty in believing but... it's not impossible to jam pack a ton of adventures, exploits and professions in a short time or a lifetime. For example the author Louis L'Amour, who was also a critic of Brushy Bill Roberts claim.
He was a rancher, cowboy, miner, professional boxer, traveled the world multiple times, WW2 veteran, etc. Even was shipwrecked on an island. A lot of the stories he told people did not want to believe. But extensive research have shown that everything he said was true.
I mean, how difficult is it to have multiple jobs or have traveled extensively? Not really hard at all. A lot of people find it hard to believe that I was a boxer at one point in my life, or that I got paid to write up articles for other boxers, etc.
Some things that Roberts claimed seem exaggerated or outright lies, even if you believed him to be Billy The Kid. But, it seems to me in my own research of the man he was telling partial truths. Every story, or virtually every story he told, indeed has a trail that leads either to him or family members.
