Overlaying the photos like that is really just a morphing of one face into the other and that gradual change is misleading. I can do that easily and have done it but I know the results are less valid than the tracing method I used above. Billy's tintype is clearly more similar to all the photos of Brushy than it is the photo of Henry. And that includes the elderly photo of Brushy. And no, the basic shape of the inner ear does not change that much over the years. Henry O. Roberts was not Billy The Kid.
#1- I'm aware morphing doesn't really add on or take away from anything, but it's still an interesting thing I would like to see. I've seen many Brushy-Was-Billy people do it with virtually no backlash. It's largely just for fun.
#2- Provided that those alleged images of Brushy really were Brushy. The only images we know with 100% certainty that were of Brushy Bill Roberts was as an old man, and those pictures that the Roberts family said were Brushy Bill Roberts as a teenager (ie, Roy Haws book). The photographs in Roberts trunk have never been empirically verified as truly being himself, we've only gone by his word that it was him.
#3- I do believe that there are enough things going on in Henry's picture to account for differences between the tintype and his picture. You say that the inner ear shape does not change, but I am seeing different in literature elsewhere. According to several studies on the "biometrics of the ear", they are not (keyword there) a reliable science as of yet and oftentimes when ear recognition has been used in court cases they've been thrown out because there is no scientific consensus on the subject. If you Google the words "ear biometrics advantages and disadvantages," the top of the search is a peer reviewed paper on possible means of identification and the conclusion is that it's far too early to say one way or another.*
#4- I'm not necessarily saying that Henry Oliver Roberts was Billy The Kid. The only claim that I have made is that it's likely that Henry Oliver Roberts was essentially a first or second cousin to William Antrim. Furthermore, my hypothesis is that it's possible that Brushy used photographs of his father to make his case for being Billy The Kid because Henry was from the general timeline for Billy The Kid.
*As for Billy The Kid's own ears, it's probable his pronounced (protruding) ears and position is altered due to his hat and the "posing machine", not to mention the lighting can increase or decrease certain features of the image in question. If you look at the two other pictures of Billy The Kid his ears are not as pronounced (protruding), especially the picture of him playing cards.
Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all 😊
