I have been doing a little digging and found what may be a connection of some kin of Catherine Antrim’s in an 1860 census for Leavenworth Kansas, and it may show a possibility that Billy the Kid may have been staying with relatives for a time when as an infant and possibly with an aunt Margaret McCarty in Leavenworth Kansas. The reason I’m guessing Margaret McCarty is kin to Catherine is because there was an interesting ad that Catherine McCarty may have put in the paper herself to find her sister and brother, I believe this was in 1872, while in Nevadaville Colorado that area was close to a mining town and 30 miles from Denver, possibly the Antrims may have passed through or was drawn there for a short spell on their way to New Mexico? the article read:
Catherine McCarty, at Nevadaville, Colorado Territory, is anxious to hear of her sister, Margaret McCarty, who, when last heard from, was in Am- boy, N. J., and her two brothers, Matthew and Barnard.
If the ad was placed by Catherine then Margaret McCarty was her sister. I found in a Leavenworth Kansas Census Enumerated on June 19,1860 division 1st Ward Leavenworth City, and it’s also Leavenworth County. I found listed a Margaret McCarty age 27, and Ireland, a Mary McCarty age 5 and a William McCarty 2/12 month and underneath his name for where he’s from or born it has De, would that be Delaware? Also interestingly further down there’s a John Cahill 24 from Ireland and his 22 yr old wife Johanna also from Ireland and lists his occupation as a Blacksmith, could this be Frank (Windy) Cahill’s parents? I did not see a Catherine McCarty on that Census page. I’m not sure this is Billy the Kid or his kin in Leavenworth or if Catherine Antrim placed that ad in a Colorado paper, but it’s interesting.
