Thank you for the posting Missy. I must say that you find and post some of the most interesting material on these forums. I always appreciate reading your thoughtful posts. A couple of things that struck me as interesting. The story about Billy killing Chisholm's cowboys is consistent with other stories I have seen. I believe it was in the federal writers project material but may be mistaken. The other interesting thing is the claim that both handcuff's were on one wrist, when Billy struck Bell. Also interesting he says Billy was eating supper. Nothing about an outhouse or another gun. No conclusions being drawn, but an interesting read and published in 1907. many thanks!

Thank You, noreaster, Iv enjoyed sharing the posts and getting others thoughts about them. The boards been a great help to help answer questions and to make sense of the material. I’m the kinda person that questions everything, maybe I’m too inquisitive? I’m always wondering Why, and How in about everything I read on Billy and Brushy. The story of the killing of Chisum’s Cowboys I have also read about from another source but I don’t remember where I read it?, that story may explain the name on my other thread of “Who was John Garrish”? In the Weekly Eagle of Wichita Kansas July 28, 1881, that name was on a list of Billy the Kid victims, Im wondering if “John Garrish” could have been one of John Chisum’s cowboys? The spelling of Billie with (ie) instead of Billy I thought was interesting in Nat Love’s book also. I think Billy may have spelled his name Billie maybe on a letter to Gov. Lew Wallace? I wonder why Nat Love used the Billie spelling? What Nat wrote on the last chapter kinda summing up his feelings of the Kid sounded familiar of what others that knew him have said about him also, like not believing Billy was all bad, and Billy doing deeds of kindness, and he had many traits that go to make a good man, he always remembered a kindness done to him and never forgave an enemy. Nat said Billy was 22, year old when so many references claimed he was 21. The two names he mentioned that was riding with him and Billy I haven’t heard of before “Buck Cannon” and “Billy Woods” I was wondering if “Billy Woods” could have been an alias name for “Billy Wilson” ? In the last chapter Nat tells about Bill Woods shooting Buck Cannon in May 1882, in Durango, Colorado. I have never read about Billy working as a buck board driver before either, Nat mentioned him working for a man named Galligan for eleven months transferring provisions from White Oak to the nearest town. I don’t know if this can be verified or not? Nat said he knew Jesse and Frank James too saying they were true men, brave, kind, generous and considerate.

I haven't read Mr love's book but I've seen plenty of reviews and the general consensus is that his autobiography has a few added ingredients to spice it up a little. On line. docsouth.unc.edu/neh/natlove/natlove.html Thanks, that's about all that's needed really.
