I ran across a small bit of information I don’t think I’v read before about Catherine Antrim while looking through old newspaper articles, there’s a small paragraph in an Amarillo Sunday news and Globe I don’t know the exact month date, just year it is the anniversary edition 1933 It stated that for a number of years the Mother of Billy the Kid; Mrs. Bonney cooked for railroad crews building the Santa Fe across Kansas. The paper referred to her as Mrs. Bonney not McCarty or Antrim, it’s likely an assumption. I don’t know if this was an employment she took on with the railroad, or if she cooked for the railroad construction crews from the goodness of her heart? If the article is true then it’s amazing that she found time to cook for railroad workers and look after two boys and do her laundry service too, and she may have begun or was feeling the effects of the tuberculosis when she may have done this? It’s not much info but it could shed a little bit more light on the person she was. I wonder if more information can be found about this, or anything also can be found about her cooking for the railroad crews in maybe Indiana or New York?

I found her listed as Catherine Donahey or some variation of that spelling the other week - though I think it listed her as having skipped between NYC and Massachusetts for some reason, and also listed about fifteen children allegedly born to her including Billy, Joe and Bridget I think.

According to Billy's friends in Silver City, her cooking was very good. The cookie jar was never empty and she always had some pie ready to eat. Apparently it was one of her great talents

I remember something about Billy telling a story about himself able to put a whole piece of pie in his mouth. I think it was on a trip going to the Lincoln county jail.😀

I found a reference for a Catherine McCarty in Boston from a Boston newspaper Of Catherine McCarty, native of Cahirgal, who came to this Country about 2 years ago, left Somerville, near Boston and has not been heard from since, Please address her Father Richard McCarty # 13 Paris court, East Boston Mass.

May have to chase this up further when I have the time even if turns out it’s the wrong Catherine.

Apparently it was one of her great talents It sounds like Catherine loved to cook and bake for people, so the report that she cooked for the railroad construction is believable, I thought maybe the railroad hired her to work serving on a kinda chow line, but she may have volunteered to bake the men pies and cookies.
