So I am reading Matt Warner's auto biography "The Last of the Bandit Ridesr", and cannot put it down. In case you don't know, warner spent some time with Butch Cassidy and was one of the lucky few to live to live to an old age. Anyhow, in the chapter on cattle raiding in Mexico he spends some time at the Chisholm ranch, and makes a brief mention about meeting BTK, saying, "While I was there I run into Billy the kid, who afterwards turned out to be one of the worst killers the West ever produced. He was dressed up flashy and looked more like a dude to me than a fighter." That's all he says. I tend to believe him about Billy's being dressed up flashy, even though the tin type has him just off the trail clothes. Didn't Sally C say he was right smart dresser? Anyhow, this book is a must read for any old west fan. The chapter on how the sheriff loses his pants had me laughing so hard that tears were flowing down my face. I have not laughed like that in a long time. How much of the book is true to the point, i don't know. I feel that there is some pretty good exageration, and kind of like Warner wanted people to think he ran the show with Butch when they first met, but it is still one captivating story

That is also true about the tintype taken outside of Beaver Smith’s saloon, where he is correctly dressed as an outlaw in his own style. Good looking, geared up and ready for action.

Is there not a tale somewhere (can't recall the book off the top of my head) that Butch and Sundance survived only for Sundance to be killed by (presumably) the same Matt Warner mentioned above, in the 30s?
It's also ironic that bodies are being dug up all over the place to try and use DNA to solve the Butch and Sundance riddles yet there's no movement for BTK!

Did Brushy ever mentioning giving Dedrick the tin type or for that matter any of the photos of friends similarly kept secret until recent times ? The tin type was reproduced by a journal and by Garrett in his book..Paulita said their specimen was reproduced several times before it was lost in a fire -she said in 1926 one of their reproductions hung for many years in the Palace of the Governors. The image was always known to have once existed but it was'nt until long after Brushy's death that the Dedrick original came to light.Brushy does'nt say much about all the photos that he would have known existed pre 1881- my gut feeling is at least 7 photos are the same guy...but if you can't trust your gut feeling -then you do have forensic experts like the FBI...
