This might sound like a ridiculous question and it probably is but has anyone ever tried to place the mid 20's brushy moustache onto the Billy tintype. Don't know if it's possible or whether it matters but would be interesting to see what the outcome was.

I'm repeating a post here I put on social media. This is a photo of Brushy Bill Roberts on the left and the bronc buster from the Rough Riders in 1898 on the right. For those that believe Brushy was Oliver Pleasant Roberts I can tell you that "Ollie" was never in the Rough Riders. How would Brushy get so lucky that one of the very few bronc busters in the Rough Riders would look exactly like him? Is it reasonable to think he made it up when this photo exists? Whether you believe Brushy Bill was Billy the Kid or not, this is obviously the same man in both photos.
I agree and I want to say that I believe the book is the finest on Brushy Bill published, so far. Thank you for what you do.

If Ive gotten this right the name that bronco rider went by at the time was William S Murphy. I got that from the conversation between Daniel and Sue Land thats on youtube (Great interview btw). So anyway, here is an article from 1906 that seem to be about this individual William Murphy. It says he was shot in the shoulder and is recovering at the home of a Mrs. Fannie Weber. I havent seen the full article yet since its locked for non subscribers. Anyone has a subscription and feel like shedding some more light on this? www.nytimes.com/1906/08/31/archives/rough-rider-murphy-shot-in-the-shoulder-mr-roosevelts-protege-cant.html

We've been down this road before. Dan overlooked one small problem. William S Murphy died 10 Feb 1928. He and his wife, Emma, are buried in Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Bryan County, Oklahoma. His widow, Emma, applied for a pension, based on the service of William S Murphy in the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry.

The Murphy guy in the Times article apparently was having relations with the Weber girl. Can you connect her to your Murphy? Could it not be possible there were actually several different Murphys?

Oh I left a no out there. *There is no such records. Which simply means no one was ever interested enough in WilliamS Murphy to research his family history and post that information on Ancestry.com.

Still, it might be this person was a completely different Murphy. Whats your explanation for the Weber girl?
