Billy spelling his name as Billie with an “ie” is interesting to me, I’m wondering if he spelled his name that way because he didn’t want to be confused with the other Billy the Kid whose real was Arthur Leroy Pond that used to operate in Colorado, and maybe did some robbing in other states? Billy wrote in a letter to Governor Lew Wallace once telling him he’s called “Kid Antrim” but Antrim was his stepfather’s name, I’m just guessing he may have wrote that due to Billy Leroy also going by Billy the Kid and thought Wallace may have gotten the two confused? It’s just a thought. The reason I was thinking the rock could have a chance to be the Kid’s rock is because Billy had been known to scrawl his name on jail walls, posts and a huge rock on a hillside, but even though he may have liked to scrawl his name on things it’s still a long way, I thought it curious anyway, Rufus that coin story is awesome.
