Bob Boze Bell took this photo of the tintype just a couple days ago and posted it online. This is the real deal, the original unaltered tintype. I've always wondered about the real shape of the ear that is obscure, (left side of this image). In this recent photo you can clearly see the shape of that ear is very similar overall to the shape of Brushy's ears. Take a close look. As for as both ears are concerned and the bridge of the nose, I am excited to offer my opinion this new image convinces me more than ever, that Brushy really matches the tintype. Even the jawline is more apparent here. All photos taken before were done with cameras that didn't provide modern age quality. Even this image becomes jagged when enlarged. I hope someone will get a higher resolution photo before the tintype is sold at auction and possibly never again made available for public viewing. This is very exciting. Enjoy! Attachments:

Yes, it is going up for auction at the Old West Show & Auction at the Denver Merchandise Mart on June 24 - 26th and is expected to bring about 1/2 million dollars. I'm not clear on who owns it now but I think it is descendants of the Dedrick/Upham family. Correct me if I'm wrong. This is the actual tintype that Billy held in his hand and tucked into his sweater before the emulsion was dry, causing the distortions below his waist and in a few other areas. Everyone had thought the original had long since turned black so that the image was barely visible but that is not the case. This recently uploaded digital photo of the tintype shows some detail in the image that I've never seen before. But at the same time, it is not high enough resolution (the online version I mean). I sure hope someone gets an ultra high resolution photo before it is sold and possibly never seen again in public.

If there's any way I could become more convinced that Brushy really was Billy The Kid, I just did. I took the recent photo of the tintype and zoomed way in on it and did a new tracing of the face. The exact dimensions of the nose and the ears is more visible in this recent photo than ever before. I took my new tracing and overlayed it on Brushy's face. Here's the result: Attachments:

In the above photo tracing notice how the left earlobe is more tapered than his right which is a bit rounder. Notice the differences in the left and right eyebrows. Remember in the tintype his mouth was opened a bit which would have made the chin just a bit longer and the face just a bit more narrow at the area of the cheeks. Before, I couldn't really see the shape of his left ear in the tintype and the bridge and shape of the nose was less visible.

even the shape of his lips are very simular to your tracing, and the width of his head as well.
kinda seems a little weird after all these years of looking at the tintype photo to be looking at what could be a clear close view of billy the kid.

I should point out that the Brushy photo I used in the above post is allegedly him at around the age of 30. At my website, "Searching For The Kid", I used that photo to overlay a tracing of Billy's face and it was a pretty good match, but I had not realized at the time, the photo was a reverse image. Since then, I have looked at a drawing/painting of the same photo that shows the lapel of his coat and from that I can know the photo was reversed. So I flipped it horizontally and with the new more precise tracing I produced the example posted above. Notice even the nostrils are in the same position with his right nostril being a bit higher than the left. There is a difference in the vertical position of his right ear but that would be due to the angle of his head and/or the camera. Other than that, I think the above comparison is a near 100% match. Now really, what are the chances of that close a facial match from a guy who knew too much about the Kid and put his life at risk to make the claim he made?

for myself wayne it's the question of why a 90 year old man, with probaly only months to live, would go threw the scrutiny that brushy did with his desire to be pardoned as billy the kid. i myself, if i make it to that age, would rather live out my life untill that certain time came.
i would like to know why the gouvener of new mexico at that time alowed decendents of garretts, bradys and wallaces families to be present at the pardon hearing. along with all the reporters as well. wasn't it suppose to be a private meeting?
it's not like brushy made his claim, had no support from known friends of the kid, looks nothing like the kid, or knew nothing about the kids life. cover up? or a state not willing for the truth to be known?

I don't know if you've ever been in New Mexico but let me tell you, Billy is everywhere, on billboards, etc., etc. He is the number one tourist attraction in the state and they're afraid of what would happen if Brushy was ever officially recognized as the true Billy. I guess it's why I continue to try and prove it. For his sake. He spent his entire life being dumped on and it's still happening.

I guess youre referring to the impostor "Oat Garrett" who got away with several murders and scams. But he didnt really get away with his big scam, did he? After all we are exposing him right now, just as lots of folks was aware of or at least suspected the scam back in the old days too. I guess thats why they held back on that bounty money?

Yes I strongly believe Oat Garrett(Oatsy) was jealous of Billy's fame and popularity with the girls. He was a corrupt jealous man impersonating a police officer for his own personal agenda. Pat was an imposter.
Brushy really was Billy the kid.
And Pat really was Oat Garrett.
