I'm on the understanding that Billy was wounded in the Brady killing and possibly in the mcsween shoot out. So where did this enormous amount of matching brushy scars come from? One maybe two flesh wounds doesn't equate to the patchwork appearance of the fraudster!

Brushy had one wound that was in the correct location and not a flesh wound because the bullet was still there and Morrison could feel it beneath the skin...this wound was decisive for Morrison as it could not be faked..simularly John Miller had a wound that went through bone and was seen 70 years later --so too could Brushy's bullet be seen today.

I think you might find that there was no bullet left in the kid it passed through. Keep flogging a dead horse!

I think we're missing the point just a bit. Fact is we really don't know for sure if BTK had a lot of scars and exactly where they were. But we do know that Brushy had an unusual number of scars if he was Oliver Pleasant Roberts. Morrison saw them, touched them and others saw them as well. One witness said he had never seen so many scars on one man's body. So the real question is whether that matches with what we would expect to find on Oliver P. Roberts. If not, then we have an important reason to believe he was someone other than Oliver P. And we know he "said" he was BTK. And others who knew Billy said he was Billy. And he knew things about Billy and the LCW that Oliver P. Roberts would not have likely known. And his facial dimensions and overall stature are a close match to BTK. Brushy's true identity can not be determined by just one piece of evidence. Not the scars or anything else. One must look at the big picture and realize that all those scars only mean one thing. They make it more likely he was Billy than Oliver P. They don't provide proof either way.

After such an extraordinary adventurous long life covering many States -- Brushy aged 90 would have many more scars than Brushy aged 20..The doctor at the Brady shooting recorded a through wound to the inner left thigh which must have exited below the hip --yet like all the players in this legendary saga - the doctor's story had more than one version of some details or deliberately indulged in ambiguity because of the needs of the time rather than the convenience of history in a hundred years' time.

Family bible says as family does. If you don't mind me asking what was the doctor's name?

Yes - Brushy certainly had a good story to tell at the end of his life....the truth is often much stranger than fiction! But those who must have proof beyond all unreasonable doubt must wait for the DNA - it will come ..in the meantime - we can all enjoy the amazing images of BTK and friends that continue to become public after the sensational sale of the Dedrick Tintype. ..

In one of the articles that was posted previously in this thread by Wayne there is mention of Brushy appearing in a radio show "We, the people". I googled it and the old show is available for purchase as an mp3 cd collection. Anyone know if the episode with Brushy is included there? Would be awesome if it was! www.otrcat.com/p/we-the-people

I believe Billy the Kid had suffered a wound to his scalp or head at one point? in Charlie Siringo’s book History of Billy the Kid, he wrote about an adventure Billy had riding with a pal named O'Keefe, he had a shootout with some Indians and during the fight many shots were fired at Billy and one bullet struck a rock near his head, and the splinters gave him slight wounds on the face and neck. Also in an article I stumbled across about a Dr that claimed to have treated Billy the Kid and sounds like from it that the Doctor treated him for some kind of scalp wound? I don’t know when he got the scar or if Brushy ever had such a scar or not?, but perhaps the scalp wound could be added to Billy’s list of battle scars? cdm15992.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/api/singleitem/image/achl/826/default.jpg?highlightTerms=Billy%20the%20kid

Can anyone produce a picture of brushy that shows any evidence of a bullet to the jaw? There is no such thing that I've seen, should be major dis-figuration if that actually occurred.

Can anyone produce a picture of brushy that shows any evidence of a bullet to the jaw? There is no such thing that I've seen, should be major dis-figuration if that actually occurred. It doesn't exist. Not in his burial photo, or in any other photo does such a scar show up. Nothing more than an overactive imagination run wild and unchecked. "Alias Billy the Kid' original edition, page 49 "After entering the yard, their first shot struck me in the lower jaw. taking out a tooth as it passed through my mouth."
Might have left Brushy with two scars, entry and exit wounds, on his cheeks, unless he had his mouth open.
Brushy, Morrison, and DeWitt Travis described the location of Brushy's various scars. None of them mentioned a scar on his jaw.

He probably lied about the bullet through his jaw, or at least exaggerated considerably. But even if it was an out and out lie, it doesn't mean he lied about being BTK. Doesn't mean he didn't either. It just doesn't give us the answer to his claim one way or the other.
BTW, relating to an earlier post, he did indeed have a scar across the upper forehead. That one can be seen in one of the photos taken at the meeting with Mabry.

Wayne are you admitting that brushy had a licence of the poetic variety? There was no shoot out ,there was no jaw wound. It proves that our old friend brushy was no more than a compulsive liar and anything he said is no more than a faux pas. I'm glad you finally realised that everything that he was coerced into saying by Morrison was completely fabricated.
