Can anybody add anything to this, about how Billy Bonny got his nickname?
Ive read from the Mexican perspective that Lincoln was known as Las Placitas del Rio Bonito. Because Billy spent alot of time there, the Mexicans began to give him the nickname Billy Bonito and the Americans called him Bonny, leading to Billy's nickname being Billy Bonito or Billy Bonnie ka Bonny
Las Placitas del Rio Bonito means 'The village by the pretty river'

scoopdogg1867, If Billy formed a name from a town he was familiar with then I wonder about Brushy Creek located in Round Rock Tx. (Williamson County),this area has a history of Chisum Trail, and I believe Brushy had a friend of the Jesse Evans gang that lived in Round Rock Jimmy Mcdaniels? Could Billy have had a history with this area after he fled New Mexico and took the name Brushy from there?

Page 51 of ABTK says he got the name Brushy from riding the brushy hills of the Dakotas. I thought he may have mentioned the name Bonney in the 'Jesse James the Outlaw' book but I don't have it with me right now.
