If both the 1881 article and the 1876 article are correct this combined information correlates nicely with Brushy's claim being Billy the kid as well as being born in Texas, obviously.

It’s interesting that Brushy Bill mentioned that he went on a cattle drive to Dodge City with Chisum’s outfit and he got the photo taken with the Jones boys there. If it is Billy the Kid in the postcard then he had to have met Billy Dixon somehow some way? Not impossible

Missys,
I can answer your questions but am going to back out of the discussion. I will let you do your research and keep us updated on it.
Some years back, I visited with different members of the Jones family about Billy the Kid and the picture in question as well as some of their family history that I had learned doing research.
I don't want this to turn into an argument so let me know what you find. I am here to learn.

I appreciate and thank you for your posts. I apologize if I posted something out of line or argumentative. I didn’t intend to. Sometimes Brushy’s story seems to go along with some of Billy the Kid research, and I admit sometimes they don’t. Your visit with the Jones family members is awesome, and so interesting. I hope you may share it sometime.

MissyS,
You don't need to apologize because you haven't done anything wrong, and you have never been argumentative. It has more to do with me. I like to back up my knowledge with facts and I can't do it on here. I can't post certain documents, letters, pictures and so on. The main reason though is I hate to write and am not good at it. Ha.
One thing about to your last post, there is a reason Brushy's story seems to go along with some of the Billy the Kid research. You are smart enough to figure it out.

I think I've worked it out. Brushy learnt a little about the real story of BTK and used it to enhance his purported claims creating a false persona.

I don’t believe BTK going on a cattle drive to Dodge City Kansas with the Chisum outfit is a part of the common BTK story.

The Leavenworth Times, Sep. 16, 1881: Billy the Kid: John McGraw yesterday received a genuine picture of "Billy the Kid," from his father, in New Mexico. The picture is an ambrotype and is badly scratched, but it shows the features well enough to give anyone who sees the picture an idea of the face of the boy. The picture represents the Kid leaning on a gun and looking square to the front with a dare devil kind of an expression. The picture was sent here for the purpose of having copies taken by some one of our photographers.
In 2013 there was a Carte De Visite of Billy the Kid that was found within 20 miles of Silver City, N.M. The CDV sold at a Denver auction. (WildWest magazine, October 2014.) In a reprint of the book, The Story of The Outlaw, just after page 258 there is a picture of Billy like the one that sold in 2013 but in much better shape.
Could any of these pictures have come from the picture sent to Leavenworth, Kansas?
