Are you really reading what you're writing?

As always, I'm not trying to stir the pot here but re the above, regardless of 'how old was he?', there's always anomalies. A lad I grew up with was taller than most adults by the time he was 11, he looked at least 18. But he never changed, by the time we were all 21 he looked young and immature. I'm not backing either side, just enjoying the debate. I'd post a pic of all of us, in a school sports photo, aged 11, with our pal looking like our teacher.....but that would be weird and invasive.
This new pic reignites interest and chatter. I love it.

Are you really reading what you're writing? I think there's some confusion. One link further up this thread takes you to a site saying the pic was in 1872, the pic is actually meant to be from 1877 on, as that's the Cahill date. I reread the entire thread and I think that's causing extra confusion. Debate is good, but not if both sides are coming from unintentional 'facts'. Is that right?

All, this photo was originally brought to me I believe back in 2019 because the French-Canadian owners, only one of which speaks English, saw my book. I told them what I tell everyone, no one is going to give you millions of dollars without provenance. Even if the people look alike it doesn't prove anything. They then approached some other people and apparently that one guy told them what they wanted to hear and posted the photo with his (flawed) analysis. I wasn't aware of this at the time. They came back to me last year and I said the only way I would research the photo was with an exclusive license agreement which we signed. The mistake the people looking at it were making was that they thought the woman and man were Mr. and Mrs. Antrim but that would make Billy no older than 15 and I didn't believe that. I also didn't believe that was Mr. Antrim. Anyway, it all started coming together when we identified the woman as Maggie Keays. More research resulted in more results (type of photo, clothing, history of hydraulic mining, etc. etc.) and then I took it to law enforcement to confirm the identities. I showed Mr. Estevez and he agreed to participate and now we have a 40 minute documentary on my Youtube channel telling the story. You have to hit "Join" and then its in the Members Only Playlist. There is a lot more not in the documentary. We are just getting started.

I'd like to hear Mr land's opinion???..basic maths if that is supposed to be BTK circa 1872 then that's the oldest 13 year old I've ever seen. 1877 was the date given for the photo.

Edwards just dropped an absolute bomb of a photo showing Brushy and Billy were the same person and Michael Anthony Giudicissi just suddenly quits his Billy the kid youtube channel. How does this photo show that Oliver P and BTK are the same person?..the supposed Billy looks like a thunder bird puppet on a 150 year old picture without a blemish on it, really?? And what's the provenance of this photo? There isn't any is there Mr Edwards???. It may be possible for a 150 year old photo to be in great shape if it’s been kept in a photo album and put away for years.

Historians don't charge a penny there more than happy to pass on there knowing free of charge. Business as usual for the rest. Love taking advantage of gullible people...cost of living?? Not if you're paying..

Well, if you have ever edited a film, it's not a quick or easy excercise, it does cost money, the usage of the equimpment alone warrants $4.99. Bottom line is unless you have seen the film, you can speculate all you want, but without the knowlege the film articulates you are left with a merit less opinion. Mr. Edwards has integrity, just like Morrision, he has said time and time again, that he does his research and let's the reader/viewer decide.

Business as usual for the rest. Love taking advantage of gullible people...cost of living?? Not if you're paying.. You do realise historians write and publish books, and work as consultants for TV and films, and hold down low-pay jobs as researchers or professors at universities, right? All of those things require a fee to be paid. And the writers who aren’t lucky enough to secure that work (which is a majority of the writing community) have no choice but to take minimum pay jobs in hospitality or customer service jobs where they’re taken advantage of on the daily by greedy corporate stooges and managers who like nothing better than to screw their staff over for more money, because believe it or not, there IS a cost of living crisis across the entire planet - and historians/writers are just as vulnerable to it as any other low income worker. The only people more affected are disabled people who keep getting benefits taken away by capitalist politicians and organisations like the DWP in the UK who keep moving the goalposts so that people who desperately need the help, just starve to death instead. And as an aside: have you not seen anything on the news lately about the SAG-AFTRA walkouts in the States, or the university lecturers in the UK strikes over pay disputes? It’s everywhere. The average UK wage for a working historian employee in the academic sector is a measly £21.15 an hour, for preparing lectures, reading materials themselves, carrying out their own research and publishing it, staying up until the early hours grading papers for classes of 20+ students, and taking on dissertation students (including PhD students), and then getting up the next day to do the exact same stuff, stretching themselves so thin that many (like happens in the NHS) quit because they’re burnt out. The US equivalent is 27 dollars an hour. For all that work. So if you genuinely think that historians and other history based writers do things for free, or that they SHOULD do all this for free, then you haven’t been paying attention to the humanities subjects that have been around for centuries before you were ever born, and have been suffering for it because people in power or with ignorance like your comments don’t think they’re worthy of finding, or alternatively should be stamped out because they’re the last guard between ideologies like conservatism or fascism and the truth of the human experienced, which isn’t to be subjugated or let good people fall by the wayside. It’s to tell their stories, no matter how ugly or shameful it is to ruling classes. Historians do that. That’s why they should be compensated. That’s why I paid the membership to see Daniel’s video, and why I’d do it again. When was the last time anyone picked up a book for free that wasn’t borrowed from a library, who has to buy it from a supplier, who in turn bought it from a wholesaler, who themselves struck a deal with the very publisher who paid a commission to the writer of the book in the first place?

Very well said Cassandra. Thank you for that. I will add just another comment that's being overlooked here. The video "will" be available on one or more TV streaming services at some point. Of course those services are not free but viewing the video from that source will not cost any more than you are already spending. Dan made it available on Youtube for those of us who did not want to wait for it to appear on TV and I applaud his efforts in making that happen. And besides, you "can" see the photo for free. Just go to Dan's Facebook page. Thank you Dan for all you do!

If that is correct then the photo has to be 139 years old or more. Morley, as adminstrator of this message board, I request you refrain from sarcastic comments like "priceless" and "really". As a guest here you need to please be more polite. You are welcome here and your questions may be legitimate, but your choice of words is a bit on the sarcastic side. If you were a member of the board I would have sent this in a private message.

I think we have a slight misunderstanding. I've spoken with many historians and authors over the years (I can list them if you want).not one of them has ever asked me for a penny to answer my questions or queries they do it for the love of the subject but others choose to make a profit. That's all. As for UK politics cassandra that's nothing to do with this site but I sure do miss Maggie thatcher..I'll word things different from now on Mr land but what's your honest opinion on the picture??
