I found reference that there was a notice poster that was hung in a Las Vegas NM saloon dated March 1882. The poster had been copied and sold online but was copied from an authentic poster it read:
NOTICE! TO THIEVES, THUGS, FAKIRS AND BUNKO-STEERERS, Among Whom Are J. J. Harlan alias “Off Wheeler;” Saw Dust Charlie, Wm. Hedges, Billy the Kid, Billy Mullin, Little Jack, The Cuter, Pockmarked Kid and about Twenty Others: If Found within the Limits of this City after TEN O’CLOCK P.M. this Night, you will be Invited to attend a GRAND NECKTIE PARTY, The Expense of which will be borne by 100 Substantial Citizens. Las Vegas, March 24th, 1882
I’m wondering why would the name “Billy the Kid” be on it if he was shot July 1881? And Arthur Pond the Colorado Billy the Kid was hung shortly afterward. Could it be that Billy the Kid was seen alive around New Mexico often enough and so his name was added to the list? I want to find out more about this Notice Poster what Billy the Kid could it be referring to? This poster may be a bit of proof Billy the Kid escaped Fort Sumner.
