Good Evening, I recently purchased the tintype photograph below and feel that it strongly resembles Billy the Kid. I would like to hear your opinions on if you see the same resemblance. Down below I have attached photographs and a couple of Youtube links of some very simple comparison research. A few questions that you may be able to help with as you review the tintype: - Was there a photographer in New Mexico that maybe one of you are familiar with that has taken pictures with these same props? I know that is a stretch considering the limited amount of props being used but that fence has very distinct features. Maybe by some chance you all have seen the props used in other photographs.
- Does the clothing match that of New Mexico in the 1870s-1880s?
- Would the person in my tintype be flipped in order to align with the original tintype of Billy? I am not sure which image of the original is the correct way to view for comparison purposes.
An interesting thing to note is the finger print in the bottom left corner of this tintype. This may be something common with tintypes again something maybe somebody on this board can help clarify. Tin Type ComparisonGun Under Jacket VideoI have very little promenade on this photo. But the seller is trying to find out more information that he can provide. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and any next step suggestions. Thank you, Henry e. esandoval2424@icloud.com

allday24es, Welcome to the board, Thank You for sharing your interesting photo, it looks like a piano stool in the corner, but the little stand above it looks to have the same kind of pretty fringe border, so Im guessing it looks like they go together maybe a photographer’s stand of some kind?, I wonder what it’s really used for? The wooden fence looking stand kinda looks like a handmade quilt or blanket stand? but it looks rural for sure whatever it is? It’s an interesting prop. Looks like a tent pole in the corner?, so with that it may have been taken from a traveling photographer in a tent? It does look like he’s concealing a pistol and looking at your video it fits perfectly, he does have resemblances to the John De Aragon photo too. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2760248/Not-Wild-West-Billy-Kid-looks-cleaned-latest-picture-emerge-infamous-outlaw.html

Your right he does resemble the John De Aragon photo. I find it very intriguing the pants look to be the same in both photos. I know that does prove one way or another since everyone wore similar cloths. But they look like the same pair of pants and boots for that matter.

allday24es, I noticed something interesting about your tintype, on his right hand above the second knuckle it looks like he’s got a dark spot, he may have tried to hide it some with his left hand?, on the known tintype of Billy the Kid when I enlarged it a little and look close it looks like he may possibly also have a dark spot in the same area on his hand as well, it’s the hand holding the rifle with the pinky ring. I don’t see it on the John De Aragon photo?

Doing some facial recognition I can tell you the what the computers think. He’s likely 20 years old, and using some research I believe that I found another photograph of him. Sorry to say but it’s likely a Swedish man born in 1895, link to the photo. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vårby_gård_arbetare_1915.jpg

I'm not sure the lugs match for them to be the same. Could be though, just initial impressions, the one above has lugs like a trophy, this fella's are more tucked in.

Very true, but ears can move slightly while aging and I think that it’s possible that it would happen with the Swedish man. I just don’t think this photo is really of Billy the kid
