My grandma said she was ONE of his girlfriends. There was also Celsa Gutierrez and Paulita Maxwell. I wonder why there is no mention of those other ladies. Angelita must have really meant something to him if he only mentions her. Francisco his friend is my great great grandfather. I wonder if he wanted his friend to take care of her. is there any mention of anyone else? I hate to say but I havent heard the recording. is there a link? I don’t believe for a second in the Billy/Paulita relationship. I think it was just a fanciful Romeo and Juliet invented by a man obsessed with the idea of “posh girls like a bit of rough”. If he and Paulita were together in my mind, that should have made him untouchable. I’m more convinced by Celsa being a girlfriend but even that’s a push for me because at that point of the Paulita interview Celsa wasn’t there to confirm not deny.

I totally agree 100%, that is where Gale Cooper made a mistake in her books, she thinks they were together, trying to hide it from everybody, I dont know where she got this from but she's wrong. I dont think that they were ever romantic

I dont think that they were ever romantic The way Paulita spoke about him made it seem like she would’ve been proud to run off into the sunset if those feelings existed. Heck, I think there’s more chance of him and Sallie Chisum than Paulita and that was just a candy heart in passing. Some people (“historians”) seem to forget that men and women can just be friends, not romantic interests.

Many, many thanks to Kristen for sharing this information. I have to say it supports Brushy's claim to Josephine Sanchez that he had dated a Sedillos girl. I've long believed that was one of the most convincing revelations supporting Brushy's claim, but now I'm not so sure since it turns out Billy's relationship with Angelita Sedillos was discussed in some detail in the August 1941 issue of Life magazine. So, as it turns out Brushy would have had a way of obtaining that knowledge other than living it himself. Of course we don't know if Brushy saw that article or not. But he could have. brushybill.proboards.com/threads/recent/725What do you think of the Deep Nostalgia comparisons going on?

Actually, the article did mention Angelita by name but Brushy just said "the Sedillos girl across the river". The article also talked about how her younger brother would watch for them when they met in the Orchard. It think it was her younger brother who was Josephine Sanchez' grandfather. Josephine asserted he and Billy had double dated together. Earlier her testimony was questioned because the younger brother was too young to be dating anyone. The story he would watch for them explains that. So I believe even more that Josephine was truthful and the conversation she reportedly had with Brushy actually did happen. But at the same time I'm disappointed to find out Brushy could have read about it in Life magazine.

This is ver batim from a notarized affidavit signed by Josephine Sanchez in February, 1990. <<Before me, the undersigned authority, on this day, personally appeared Mrs. Josephine Randolph Sanches of Lincoln County, New Mexico, who, upon her oath, deposes and says: That her name is Josephine Randolph Sanches, that she was born in San Patricio, New Mexico on March 4, 1920, that her Grandfather was Frank Randolph who came to New Mexico with the California Column, that when her parents moved to Ruidoso they left her to live with her grandparents, the Frank Randolphs, that she grew up with them and that Frank Randolph was a personal friend of Billie the Kid, and ran around with him. That her Grandfather dated a girl in Hondo, N.M. and Billie the Kid dated a Sedillos girl across the river from San Patricio, that when Brushy Bill came to see Severo Gallegos in April of 1950 she lived right next door to Severo, that Severo had gone to the store to buy some tobacco and while they went to get him she visited with Brushy Bill, that she thought it was an excellent opportunity for her to see if he was really Billie the Kid, that she asked him, "Who was your sweetheart in San Patricio?" and that without any hesitation whatsoever Brushy Bill said, "A Sedillos girl across the river." This affiant had heard further that Brushy Bill could not speak a word of Spanish so while waiting for the return of Severo she talked to him in Spanish, that he answered her in perfect Spanish, and could speak it fluently, that after the above named incidents, I, Josephine Randolph Sanches, knew very well that Brushy Bill Roberts was indeed Billie the Kid.>> This was notarized by Sandra Gail Knox, Notary Public in and for Lincoln County, New Mexico and states it will be picked up by William Tunstill. Now, if what she says is true then this would be very convincing. How in the world would Brushy know that information unless he really was BTK? But, there's a hitch here. The only Frank Randolph I can find in the census that might be the right one was born no earlier than 1867. That makes him no more than 13 or 14 years old when he "ran around" with Billie the Kid and "dated a girl in Hondo, N.M." So I was wondering if any of you accomplished census researchers could come up with anything new as relates to this affidavit.
