There's something that puzzles me about the controversy of Brushy's true age, if he was only a toddler when Billy The Kid was supposedly shot then I'm wondering where are all of his aquantences growing up such as old school classmates that could have remembered him?, an old girlfriend, even neighbors that lived next door or down the street that could have remembered him as being a toddler in 1881? or a person that can recall him being 30 or so around 1909? or any other age and year a person could recall up to the time of his claim? there must have been old aquaintences of Brushy's that may recall him being a certain age at a certain time, why didn't more of these people back up the accusations of him being just a toddler in 1881 as Brushy naysayers believe?, surely there's a school chum or two that could say something like they went to school together in a certain grade at a certain year. In small towns where everyone knows everyone, it seems to me the odds of some of these aquaintences would have came forward with info as to Brushy's age would be high? Yet I don't think there have been anyone other than the family member that said it and that it was recorded in a bible? If there were more persons that backed it up , I don't remember reading about them?

Very good point. Sometimes its the things that are NOT said that point you in a certain directions. About the age questions, it would be interesting to have the ages of McCook and Justin Bullard who are in a photo with Brushy on the streets of Hico. When you have known ages of someone in the same photograph it could help to guess the age of the Brushy.

So true. Along the same line, I always questioned why Oliver Pleasant Roberts' brother or other relatives didn't step forward to dispute Brushy's claim and why they were not at his funeral. Wouldn't you go to your brother's funeral even if he was a "looney tunes". I'm not sure it's fact but I had read Tom Roberts, still living at the time, wasn't there.
Regarding that photo with McCook and Bullard, check out the truck in the background. I'm pretty sure it's a 1930 or so vintage. Unless it was an older truck at the time the photo was taken (certainly possible), then Brushy was either about 70 or about 50. I think those three guys look more like their 70's.

Regarding that photo with McCook and Bullard: McCook was born in 1866 and Bullard 1874. In William A. Tunstill's book, he dates the photo about 1934 or 1935. I question these dates. I feel the truck on the right side of the photo might be a middle to late 1940 Chevy or GMC but it's hard to tell from the picture.

That truck is almost certainly a 46-54 GMC or chevy. With McCook being born in 1866, does Brushy look 6 years older or 14 year younger ? I'd say he looks a lot closer to McCook than 14 years. I've seen descendants of Daniel Harmon Cook on Ancestry . com, so they could be contacted to see if he passed on any info on Brushy.

Good Question, I wonder since Billy The Kid looked young for his age back in the day, Paulita said he looked boyish, would he continue to look somewhat younger than he was as he aged? Should that even be concidered because he had a hard life, maybe that youthful look caught up with his age? I don't know?
