I am Pastor Harolds Grand-daughter, and I am so happy this story lives on. I have the ring currently. I never took it to be officially looked at because I want to keep his story alive and let him have this story he used to love telling. Not to be a naysayer but can you provide pictures or more stories about it? I’m just a bit concerned by Kristin popping up yesterday and now another grandchild of someone involved in the overall tale. It seems like a possible “too good to be true” moment. If it is true though, that’s fantastic and I’m so glad you’ve finally come forward with such a personal story. I have it, but I don’t know what other stories he had to tell. I just know my grandfather wore it with pride and always told that story because it is such a big bold ring anyways. It’s a statement and my grandfather loved telling the story. I don’t want to take the joy of the story or the ring from anyone. I know I heard it a thousand times, and I keep it safe. I wear it often when not at work and it’s something special

My days it’s beautiful! Have you thought about going to a jeweller or somebody with experience in dating jewellery /it’s origins? (If that’s possible at least, without damaging it.)

I have not. I don’t want it to be damaged or anything like that. I have thought about it but I don’t want to have someone discredit the wonder and magic of the story my grandfather always told before he passed. He told us how the ring was used for cheating in card games, how he got it for his birthday, and I just remembered the pride he always had. I love the ring because of the sentiment behind it and would be too worried about someone doing something to it.

The ring like Brushy is post 1881 - the new photos that have emerged are all pre- 1881...whether or not you accept some of these photos has no bearing on whether or not you believe BTK - not only survived July 14 1881 -but also that he was Brushy Bill Roberts. The photos have not only appeared miraculously but also from secret family collections...not just in New Mexico - the famous tin type spent much of its time in California ( not in a junk shop but what does that matter) The evidence is there - the photos have come forward claiming to be of BTK - maybe its tme for people to come forward also claiming to be of BTK - there is no million dollar incentive and they haven't been asked. This factor would resolve the Brushy issue once and for all.

Something odd struck me about Billy the Kid’s gamblers ring. Was it mentioned at all after the shooting? I don’t recall Pat Garrett or his deputies having mentioned Billy having a gamblers ring on that night, only a mention of a gun in one hand and a knife in the other, the deputies noticed he was bare headed and stocking footed but wouldn’t a big ring like that have been noticed? If Billy had taken it off and left it with a friend or at a friend’s house wouldn’t someone have came forward later claiming to own Billy the Kid’s gambler’s ring? Would they have buried Billy with it, there was no mention of it. When Pat Garrett went to see Joseph Antrim there was no mention of Pat giving him any of Billy’s personal items, and no mention of Billy’s ring being sold. So what happened to it? Was it confiscated when Billy was arrested? It was noted that Billy gave away his horse but no mention of giving his ring to anyone or selling it to pay his lawyer. Maybe it wasn’t recalled by Pat Garrett or his deputies that Billy had on a gambler’s ring that night because the man that was shot wasn’t wearing a ring because it wasn’t Billy the Kid that was shot, he got away wearing his ring.

Because there are photos of Brushy taken post 1881 where he is wearing the pinky ring, (see rough rider photos in Dan Edwards' book, recently verified to be Brushy by NY detective in charge of facial recognition) This wouldn't have been possible if the ring had been taken by Garrett. There was no ring on the body of the man who was shot in Pete Maxwell's bedroom because it wasn't BTK. That conclusion alone, supports Brushy's story.

Oliver pleasant Roberts wasn't wearing 'the pinky ring '. He was wearing a pinky ring that he could of got from anywhere. Who said there wasn't a ring on BTK'S body?..I'm afraid that's a very poor argument for Oliver pleasant Roberts cause.
