Is anything documented about Brushy Bill's burial in the Hamilton cemetary? Are there any witnesses that have ever been asked about it, such as the burial site, who all may have attended and what kind of casket he was buried in? Any other interesting tidbits? Some of that would be important if an exhumation were ever to be financed or approved. I've read elsewhere (on this website) that he really isn't buried where the marker is in the front of the cemetary. The type casket he was buried in may be important as to how well preserved any DNA may be. That is the main argument with the Jesse James DNA comparison being that they couldn't extract any usable material from his actual grave and used teeth from some other site that had a less than clear document trail. Supposedly, there were witnesses at the Fort Sumner burial. What about Brushy's?

A number of years ago, over on another message board, there was a discussion about this and someone reported that Brushy's funeral was not attended by the Roberts family. Sorry, but I don't remember who said that or where they got their information. So who knows if that is correct? But I agree those are important questions. If indeed, the family of Oliver Pleasant Roberts did not attend, wouldn't that support Brushy's claim that he was Billy The Kid?
As for the location of the grave, there is rumor that he is actually buried at the back of the cemetery somewhere and not where the marker is, but I don't think I believe that.

I understand that Brushy is buried where his marker is. Brushy's last wife Malinda Elizabeth Murrell Long is also buried in the cemetery but I don't know if she is beside Brushy. Malinda also has a daughter Phoebe Weldner buried in the cemetery but I can't find if the grave is marked.
I would think that there are cemetery records in Hamilton that tells the lots or plots and that they have a map of the cemetery.

The answer to the question of weather any Roberts attended Brushy's funeral can be easily answered. Simply ask who has the guest book! As for records to the graves most of the tome you can find these records in the County Clerks office unless the town has a Historical Society. And even if he is not burried in the marked grave there is a record of where he would actually be somewhere.
