In the Billy the Kid beyond the grave book, Brushy recalled that after his escape from the Lincoln Jail he traveled west and entered a canyon to a friends house and the friend cut the bolts on his leg irons, he then hid in a nearby brush because he thought a posse would come to the friends house, and he said Yginio Salazar gave him a blanket and food. Brushy told this to Morrison after driving up the same canyon nearly seventy years later. On October 11, 1949 Mrs. Bernardo Salazar (Yginio’s adopted daughter) told Morrison that Yginio’s cousin Cipio Salazar cut Billy’s bolts and hid the irons, and the next morning Yginio while riding his horse heard Billy whistling from a ditch and Yginio gave Billy a saddle blanket to sleep on. So I’m wondering how did Brushy know the path Billy took from Lincoln?, and how did he know Billy went to Yginio’s to get his bolts cut and irons removed?, and how did he know Yginio gave Billy a blanket to sleep on? Was that information available or easily accessible then? If Brushy didn’t know Yginio then knowing where his location was in 1881 should have been difficult to know?

I think it was a well known scenario that it was yginio who removed billy's shackles (wheather that's true?). Also it's another scenario that yginio planted the gun in the privy (again, who knows). But brushy never mentioned that. I think all this so called information was wildly available.

It may have been well known about the shackles I don’t know?, the knowledge of the blanket given to Billy may not have been that well known?, but even if the blanket and shackles were well known in Brushy’s day it puzzles me how Brushy knew the location of Yginio’s home back in 1881 or the directions Billy took there from Lincoln if he was never personally acquainted with Yginio, I think it could give some credence that Brushy was acquainted with Yginio Salazar or his cousin Cipio, or the Salazar family, or some familiarity with the area enough to know that.

There has been some speculation that Billy the Kid was Yginio Salazar's cousin, but no documented proof yet. More info here: Yginio Salazar
