A good example to use show to male age progression is the queens husband - prince Phillip, chosen him simply for the reason because there is a huge number of and clearly imaged photo catalogue of him as a 21 year old man and progressing to compare at 90 years old. Maybe staying out of the sun will defer keratin related age spots, Maybe you will be lucky enough not develop arthritis in your joints But some signs of ageing are completely unavoidable - One is the soft tip of the nose descending, as nasal skin thickens in old age, Its weight pulls on the ligaments holding the nose in its original position, along with the effects of hormone depletion on the facial muscles they gradually lose their strength and the nose tip drops down noticeably. The other is that even straightening your deportment at 90 years old for a photo will not give you back your original height, this is because the spongy discs inbetween your spine vertebrae actually dehydrate with age and decompress. I wish he was billy, I’m hoping I can find Mary Adeline in the Irish records, but all things have to be considered in the facts

Another comparison to make for unavoidable extreme old age signs is the eyes hollowing out, this is caused by the depletion of pockets of fat tissue naturally surrounding the eye around the rims of the orbital socket, helped by the reduction of hormones that chemically signal for fat deposits to be laid down in this area, giving the sunken eye appearance. Brushy doesn’t have this advancing hollowing of his eyes , only the slightest noticeable definition in the side profile photograph where he is wearing a white checked shirt and sombrero.
Being on steroid medication would reverse that hollow and sunken facial appearance, steroids are chemical hormones, they work in part by replacing depleted human hormones and A side effect is instructing fat deposits to be laid down around the face, commonly called a “steroid face” or a “moon face” There may be a possibility brushy was on steroid medication for some ailment or another If he were his age I guess.

HI, has anyone looked into the Passenger lists of ships coming in from Britain at the time where everyone had to be immigration registered on arrival, to find records of any McCarthys, Roberts, Dunns, Ferguson’s, Bonneys? I think it would be especially helpful If bushys/ Billy’s mother and her sister could be narrowed down a possible identification on the lists somewhere. Trying to trace them from the British start of the journey is difficult as the Irish often changed their names to start new lives (for various reasons) at that point in time. thnaks There are two stories regarding the origin of Billy the Kid. 1. Brushy Bill said he was Willliam Henry Roberts, born to J H "Wild Henry" Roberts and Mary Adeline Dunn near Buffalo Gap, Texas, (which was a region inhabited by Comanche Indians in 1859). No circumstantial evidence has been found that supports Brushy Bill's story.
2. Patrick Henry McCarty, born to Patrick McCarty and Catherine Devine was baptized 17 September 1859 in District 1, Ward 1, of New York City. Both parents were born in Ireland. Circumstantial evidence is all that supports this story. After the death of Billy the Kid, several 1881 newspaper articles indicated he was from New York City. Rev. James B. Roberts, Church of Saint Peter, NYC, provided the baptismal date in a letter to Jack DeMattos, a Billy the Kid researcher. New York City directories reveal that Patrick McCarty lived on Greene Street, and the 1864 NYC directory shows that Catherine McCarty, widow of Patrick McCarty, lived on Greene Street The 1860 census of New York City shows a McCarthy (sic) family living in the 1st District, 1st Ward, of New York City (1860 New York Census, New York County, New York City, microfilm page 176, line 24: Patrick McCarthy, age 30, day laborer, born in Ireland Cath'n, age 29, born in Ireland Bridget, age 7, born in NY Henry age 1, born in NY
Finding the same Patrick McCarty and Catherine Devine in Ireland before they came to NYC might be an impossible task.

Thankyou for the information. It would now possibly appear that Catherine had a sister called Margaret and 2 brothers called Bernard and Mathew, all who emigrated to America. This will make it more likely than not that with a thorough search by an experienced genealogist. her family could be found in Ireland.
As for brushy, his story can’t be written off quite so easily when you have your own experience of a family changing names, changing realities and living lies in plain sight that become real in distortion. And it’s not something that only happens historically, it can happen today.
In own family, my grandfather wrote in his will “I leave to my 4 children ....” In reality he had 2 children and a niece and nephew that were absorbed very young into the family to live as his own after the death of their parents. Uncles and aunties became mums and dads Cousins became brothers and sisters Noone knew for 45 years, there were no formal records of the changes, if it were not for birth records it would be difficult to prove otherwise.

It's Interesting to note that in the 1872 New York Daily (Pomeroy's Democrat) newspaper an ad was placed:
Catherine McCarty, at Nevada- ville, Colorado Territory, is anxious to hear of her sister, Margaret McCarty, who, when last heard from, was in Am- boy, N. J., and her two brothers, Matthew and Barnard.
If this ad was placed by the Catherine related to Billy, then perhaps Mary could have been short for Margaret?
