There's an interview by a Mr. Poe, his cousin was John Poe that was present at the shooting along with Garrett and McKinney, and it's in the book "They Knew Billy The Kid, Interviews with old time New Mexicans", He said No one was allowed to see the body of the man that was shot except The Maxwell family, Pat Garrett, John Poe, McKinney, an old Mexican woman and a woman that was supposed to have been Billy's mother that miraculously had gotten there in time? Interesting comparison to what Brushy said Frank Lobato told him in "The Lost Interviews" Brushy said Frank told him that Garrett had sealed of the house so no one could come inside except members of the posse, and the body was wrapped in a sheet when it was taken to the carpenter's shop so no one could get a look. To me both of their statements seem eerily similar in that something was being covered up? I don't know? I'm wondering where Mr. Poe could have gotten that snippit of information, did his cousin John Poe tell him?, or was he there?, and how did Frank Lobato get his info to tell Brushy? your thoughts, Thanks

MissyS,
I have the book and have read the statement of the so called cousin of John Poe. I have tried to find this cousin and haven't been able to. There is another Poe in the Roswell cemetery but I can't find where he was a cousin of John Poe. There is history on this Poe and I will need to go back and check but I don't think he was in the area in 1881. I found it strange that they didn't give his first name. In all of John Poe's letters and his story on what happen he never said anything about a cousin being with them. Billy's mother died in 1874 in Silver City so I don't feel she would have been there in 1881. We know that there was a coroner's Jury that saw the body of Billy the Kid as well as many others. As to Frank Loboto, he changed his story many times.
