During World War I there were three registrations.
• The first, on June 5, 1917, was for all men between the ages of 21 and 31.
• The second, on June 5, 1918, registered those who attained age 21 after June 5, 1917. A supplemental registration, included in the second registration, was held on August 24, 1918, for those becoming 21 years old after June 5, 1918.
• The third registration was held on September 12, 1918, for men age 18 through 45.
Brushy Bill registered in Little River County, Arkansas, September 12, 1918. His nearest relative was Mollie Roberts, of Arkinda, Arkansas. Brushy Bill was in the third group required to register. Brushy Bill, if he was born in 1859, was 58, and was not required to register. The name on the registration card was Oliver Pleasant Roberts, born August 26, 1878.
Oliver P. Roberts was born 26 August 1879 to Henry Oliver Roberts and Sarah Elizabeth Ferguson in Sebastian County, Arkansas. Henry O. Roberts and Elizabeth Roberts were living in Arkinda town in the 1920 Arkansas census. Also living in Arkinda town was the brother of Oliver P. Roberts, Thomas U. Roberts and family.
If Brushy Bill was born in 1859, he was not required to register. Oliver P. Roberts, born in 1878, was required to register.
Brushy Bill claimed to have had a cousin, Ollie Roberts, born in 1867, that died about 1884. Brushy Bill discovered Ollie's body, and carried Ollie’s belongings to Ollie’s parents in Hopkins County, Texas, where Henry O. and Sarah Elizabeth Roberts lived. He further claimed that Ollie’s parents accepted him as their own.
No record of cousin Ollie Roberts has been found. Oliver P. Roberts, a.k.a. Brushy Bill Roberts, was the son of Henry O. Roberts and Sarah Elizabeth Ferguson. They would certainly claim Brushy Bill Roberts as their own.
