***This Girl to our left, was Billy's Sister, Bridget McCarty, ---not his Mother, as previously believed. Billy McCarty, of course, is at center. *Next, is a Circa 1864 Daguerreotype. It resides in "The Graham Nash Collection" with the title: "Portrait of an American Family -Circa 1850" I believe this Dag to be a "Portrait of The McCarty Clan" -because young Billy McCarty (aged approximately 5 years) can be seen at the Extreme Right. His Parents, Catherine Devine & Michael Patrick McCarty are in the Top Row, standing 2'nd & 3'rd from our left. I know this, because I have a Tintype of him taken at a Later Time. *There's also another Dag from the Nelson-Atkins Museum Collection of Art Photography, depicting Michael Patrick McCarty, smartly dressed -& posing by his Camera, (lens-cap In hand) as a successful Daguerreotype Artist! Needless to say, all Photographic Evidence found of the McCarty Clan by This Researcher shows The Family to have been quite Prosperous in those Early Years after emigrating to America. Images of That-& More, coming your way Very Soon -so Stay Tuned! -Flugelblue.

flugelblue, Some websites offer recently discovered vintage images of famous western characters, complete with flea market or garage sale provenance. Anything for a buck.
There is a little fairly reliable information about Henry McCarty. He was one of the witnesses when his mother, Catherine McCarty, married William Antrim in Santa Fe. He was probably born in New York City. He had a brother, Joseph, who was probably younger than Henry. He was probably with his mother in Sedgwick County, Kansas, about 1871. His father died in New York City. The McCarty family probably lived at 210 Greene Street in Manhattan. His mother died in Silver City, NM. He was tried for murder, convicted, jailed, escaped, and killed by Pat Garrett. There is only one authenticated image of Billy the Kid.
Various authors have searched for additional information. Phil Rasch found evidence, but no conclusive proof, that Henry's father was Patrick McCarty. There is evidence, but no conclusive proof, that Catherine's maiden name was Devine. There is evidence, but no conclusive proof, that he had an older sister, Bridget.
