Sorry to burst in without an introduction but i wondered... has anyone ever thought of setting up an online petition demanding a pardon for Billy? I know one has been declined before but as far as i understand most of you (if not all) feel like Billy was framed. I have seen a video where a son of Garret stated Billy should not get a pardon ever as it would make his father (Pat) a killer of an innocent man. But... didn't "law" work different in those days? Didn't many others get arrested, shot or hanged even though they were innocent? It seems to me Billy still deserves that pardon and maybe if enough people sign an online petition something is possible? Just saying...

I may be wrong on my theory?, but I do believe the reason Governor Lew Wallace didn't give Billy the pardon was because of the killing of James Carlyle. I think Billy realized it too and wrote a letter to the Governor claiming his innocence & explained how Carlyle was shot by his own men, how he jumped from the window and the posse fired on him, although the story sounded possible, I don't believe Gov. Wallace believed it, and it caused Wallace to feel betrayed by Billy, and also Billy felt betrayed and kinda gave up on the governor and walked out of jail along with Tom OFolliard sometime after he allowed to be arrested as to the agreement. I believe it may have looked to Wallace that Billy wasn't sincere by walking out, and I believe also when Gov. Wallace heard he was keeping company with Dave Rudabaugh and a suspected counterfeiter it didnt help his cause either, although Billy did testify for the murder of Chapman, I believe it was his other actions Gov. Wallace couldn't ignore. Anyway I think Wallace expected Billy to refrain from gun activity after they met, and thought Billy didn't, In Dr Henry Hoyt's book he wrote that he told Billy he was making a big mistake, and that he should go and talk with the governor and straighten things out, but Billy refused. anyway there was a communication problem on both sides because both felt betrayed by the other, I wish Billy had took Dr. Hoyt's advise, I believe Billy wasn't so innocent at times, however he was also at times blamed for things he didnt do, and he certainly at times took all the blame for things he done with others, and sadly the press didn't do him any favors either, he made some bad decisions as well, Im not saying Gov. Wallace was right, but I think I can understand why He didn't give Billy the pardon, and I also understand why Billy mistrusted him and walked out of the jail. If Carlyle hadn't have been shot, I believe Gov. Wallace would have given Billy the pardon. Since It wasn't proven that Billy and his pals shot Carlyle I feel Wallace should have given it to him. It's my theory.

Aaah, Billy doesn't need a pardon. He is dead you know and there is no known family remaining that might benefit from a pardon. Billy doesn't care. I don't care. I do think that Billy should have received one back then and he probably would have benefitted from it.
