If they could get DNA from Brushy it could go a long way in proving or disproving the whole thing. Running my DNA through Ancestry.com has given me many connections because my DNA is compared to all of the other DNA in the database. It doesn't matter if his relatives are known or not. If anybody out there has DNA that matches, even remotely, then theoretically we could trace their heritage to get to Brushy's (or Billy's). It's impossible that Brushy's DNA will not come back with matches to someone, a second cousin, a third cousin, etc., and these people probably have no idea of their relation to history. DNA science is constantly improving.

They would not even have to get both of them exhumed. If they exhumed Brushy first and just did an age test on him they could tell how old he was when he died by looking at his bones. If he was 70 at the time of his death it would rule him out as being Billy. If however he was shown to be 90 or close to it it would rule him out from being Oliver P Roberts. It would not prove him 100 percent to be the kid, but it would show that he was the right age to be so. He would probably show to be 80 and screw everybody's theories up!

Right, the only reason they would not want Brush y exhumed is that he may prove to be the kid, which would hurt New Mexico financially.

Very true, and aside from NM tourism revenue, there are certain individuals in the publishing field who've made made money and acquired personal fame by supporting the official BTK narrative. which is correct to the facts available and not the porkies of Mr Brushy

"The main problem, as I see it, is that with consensus, speculation or fiction can become dogma. This applies to both sides of the BTK/Brushy debate."
The absence of any record of Henry McCarty prior to 1873 allows endless speculation about his origin.
The abundance of records about Oliver P Roberts leaves very little to the imagination. There are snapshots of his existence at 10 year intervals in the census, from his birth in Sebastian County, AR, in 1879 until his death in Hamilton County, TX, in 1950; state records of his 4 marriages to Anna Lee, Mollie Brown, Lutecia Ballard (d/c), and Lizzie Allison; registration for the WWI draft as Oliver Pleasant Roberts; purchase and sale of 80 acres of land in Sevier County, AR.
There are no records about William Henry/Brushy Bill Roberts.

There are no records about William Henry/Brushy Bill Roberts. I'm inclined to agree that documentary evidence to support the vast majority of Brushy's story is distinctly lacking. At this point in time, I'll go on the record as stating that I think that BTK and Brushy were two separate people. That being said, I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that they had a close association with eachother in the 19th Century. I can't really add to this at the moment, as I'm looking into some evidence that may be able to establish the link, though I don't want to make anything public until I have a high degree of confidence in my findings. l don't know how long it's gonna take you to reveal your findings but hat's off mate, anything new would be a god send!

I've just found out that joe Salazar passed away away a few months ago, perhaps more secrets have now gone. Yea, very sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was close friends with Steve Sederwall who I consider a friend of mine. Steve did tell me that Joe Salazar told him that Brushy Bill had visited Joe's grandfather Yginio in the mid 1920's so brushy was known to them long before he came back to New mexico with Morrison in 1948.
