I found this in a July 1, 1881 Las Vegas Daily Gazette article; a mention of a William McCarty of Wisconsin was in town. Could this man have been a relative, or Billy using the name of McCarty since he was on the run from his escape? If Wm. McCarty was a relative then the state of Wisconsin could perhaps lend a clue to a location of Catherine’s possible relatives? but it may have been just a coincidence of a man from Wisconsin named William McCarty that was just visiting? chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn90051703/1881-07-01/ed-1/seq-4/print/image_681x648_from_1704%2C190_to_2938%2C1365/

He was born, as I recall in 1805. His son was Elijah McCarty. Can't recall his DOB, but his DOD in 1929. He had four sons, they were: Eli, William Henry, John, and Robert M... John and William Henry (Named after the popular president.) I have photographs of Elijah and Eli McCarty. Father and son. Elijah married Polly Blevins a well known pioneer family living, I think, in Kentucky. Polly died in child birth and the Blevins boys beat the Dickens out of Elijah. Eli was raised by four aunts.

LOL: I am 78 years old. Eli was born in 1870 and died in 1954. He was quite a guy, a carpenter. Build his own house in, I think, Hinton OK. I have pictures of it. He was a big man and when I met him, only once, I think, he had pure white hair and a full head of it.

I have moved three times in the last two years which means that my organization of stuff, files, pictures, etc is in disarray. But my records showed William McCarty born in 1805 and passing, as I recall in 1895! So he hung in there for a long time. I don't have any photographs of him that I know of. I have several pictures of Elijah.

FAG #9091142 info: William McCarty, born 15 Nov 1802 in KY - died 6 Feb 1895 in IN William's son John was 7 years old in the 1850 census; 16 in the 1860 census. Probably too young to have fathered BtK.

I was bummed by all of the rebuke I received after posting my pic of the Kid. Anyway, I'm better now. Say, I found a site that I posted a lot about Sallie Chisum's collection on tintypes that I wrote and posted in 2010. Somehow I came over here. If you can find it here you can read what I posted back then and you can see some what I think are good tintypes. Nice one of Tom Folliard, Sallie Chisum and J.J. Dolan. A few others. If you, dear reader don't believe any pics that I have posted I don't take it personally. You are obviously free to make your own decisions. That pic of the Kid that I posted yesterday is indeed Billy. Sallie Chisum owned that very tintype for a very long time and she knew the Kid. I have another nice one of him.

I was trying to do it, and I guess, as I was tapping away it happened! I've seen it, but I don't know were it is. Sorry. I am very brain dead when it comes to how to work these darn computers.

thumbuster, I haven’t seen your photo of the Kid posted. Where did you post it, what thread? A bunch of people posting here have seen some of my pics in the past and they poo poo it/them. I mention that they (most of them) were once owned by Sallie Chisum, but I guess people don't believe me. Anyway I got these from a yard sale held by Sallie's relatives years after she died (1936). I'm having a little trouble recalling dates.....I'm no spring chicken after all. Sallie had a sister named Mary Branch Chisum Johnson. I think she was older, born in 1855 and Sallie Lucy Chisum Robert born in 1858. These people are a matter of record. I have outstanding photos that I found in Sallie's collection of Mary Branch, Walter Pitzer, William James, James (Sallie's father) and Josephine (Sallie's mom). Good pics of Sallie, her first husband (William Robert) and John E. (eldest son) A Fred T. Robert (younger son). Also neat tintypes of: Coe cousins, both men's wives (Phoeba and Helena), Barney Mason and family (boy sitting on his lap), Sheriff Brady (very nice image), many others. If you decide not to believe me, it's no skin off of my nose. Do as you please.

I like your photos and if Billy was your family then I'm with you on believing that. If he's your family and you think Brushy wasn't Billy then I'm with you. There's a hierarchy that decides what's happening around here though.

The best way to see some of my best photos is to google Anglefire Sallie Chisum and that site will show you, eight or so of my best tintypes matched to known other pics of the same individual that have been known for a long time. I'd move Anglefire over here if I knew how to do it. I sent my pics to the master of Anglefire over ten years ago. I wish someone would try to do that so that I can see if it works for you. It worked for me yesterday. SEM

I just did it myself just to look at my pictures again.
