Thank You! Really enjoying this board and reading up on Billy the kid. Not convinced, but I think Brushy may have really been the kid.

I never liked the Brushy as a young man photo. because of the eyes - small narrow and piercing...almost cross- eyed? Despite his incredible knowledge - did Brushy know BTK was often photograhed? Excluding the tin-type and croquet picture...at least 4 photos are obviously the same person - soft round eyes and pleasant face (as remembered by Paulita) Today we have about 6 photos of BTK and it can be assumed at least another 6 were lost forever...its understandable perhaps after being condemned to death that BTK got a little camera- shy but Brushy does seem devoid of photos for the last 70 years of his life compared to the 7 years prior to 1881...

I have to disagree here. I don't believe there are more than 2 photos of Billy prior to 1881. Those being the Dedrick tintype and the croquet photo. I've compared most all of the others to the tintype using graphic measurements of facial features and I've never found anything that matches the tintype well except the croquet photo and many of the photos of Brushy. Yes, there are numerous photos of Brushy after 1881. Most of them are from his later years but to say he seems "devoid of Photos", I think, is grossly incorrect. Oh, let me correct myself. There is a third photo of Billy prior to 1881 and that is the photo identified as Brushy at age 14. It also matches the tintype almost perfectly.

Ive never felt 100 % convinced about the croquet photo. Its such a poor quality photo its hard to make out the facial features clear enough for a positive identification. I always felt that the one who is supposed to be Billy there resembles Luke Short more. That is, the alledged Luke Short in the photo with Btk and Jesse Evans and others. Just my opinion.

Its the same cleft/deformed mouth and jawline? Yes- photos taken outside were not good...even the tin-type : the croquet picture does I think show a boy-ish soft face but I like the two wedding photos the two bunkhouse photos and the three studio photos (one on his own standing in a large coat but no hat aged about 15?) I think all these photos are the same person -fair complexion soft features and boy-ish looks... befitting being named the Kid.

Id like to think those two are one and the same, croquet Billy and "Luke Short". Either there is a damage to the photo, or its a deformation of the face? Could also be that the person was recovering from a gunshot wound, a swelling from a 44-40 caliber bullet through the jaw would be consistent with Brushys story.

Just finished it, it was a bit confusing, the old timers seemed to lost in time, dates, etc... Or they did not know what they were talking about. I liked the part about Brady's son telling is side of the story. I recommend it even if its a bit inaccurate, it was a short and good read.
