Pat Garrett also alleged that Billy tore up Ollinger's shotgun, yet he sold the same shotgun, we know by the serial number years later. I do not know if I would trust much he said.

Garrett got sky-rocketed to fame and opportunity off the back of BTK .. He was even called the greatest gunfighter of them all -yet Pat hunted with the biggest Posse he could get and always tried to take his quarry by surprise and stealth -as most lawmen did and do.Pat was no vendetta rider -he apparently made peace with BTK's brother and even though he had a warrant for Olie Lee killing Fountain and one of his deputies -Pat finally faced Lee in a saloon with nothing more threatening than a hand of cards...Pat made more loyal enemies than friends and by the time of his death his reputation was well in decline -even BTK was largely forgotten until his Hollywood revival which also meant Garrett's as well. You would think Power would have given the revolver back to the Garrett family after Pat's death and before his own but he must have simply forgotten about the gun and the Garretts?

I am not sure. I know that Tom Powers got Garrett fired from Customs Collector in El Paso, Texas, because it embarrassed Teddy Roosevelt his real occupation, but they became friends, when Powers sent Roosevelt a bear and they had a picture taken together with the bear. I never knew it, but that is where the name teddy bear comes from.

I want to add yet another witness that saw the Kid a few months before the shooting and described him as beardless, this witness encountered the Kid in the spring of 1881 around the time or shortly after his escape in April, he spoke with him and not only described some facial features in the story but said he was a beardless boy. This story can indicate that Billy did not grow a beard while in jail and did not have one a few months before the shooting. The witness was mixed up on the Kid being at the Chisum’s ranch instead of Maxwell’s ranch but an interesting story. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn90059523/1899-02-13/ed-1/seq-5/
