Is there any proof he was fluent or did he just blag it like everything else? You ask for proof, there is no proof of much of anything Brushy or Billy. There is not even proof of what his name was or where he came from.Only hearsay!

lacowboy "You ask for proof, there is no proof of much of anything Brushy or Billy. There is not even proof of what his name was or where he came from.Only hearsay!"
There is proof that Oliver P Roberts was born 26 August 1879 in Bates Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas; lived in Hopkins County, Texas, in 1900; and in Van Zandt County in 1910 after he married Anna Lee.
There is proof that the Territory of New Mexico prosecuted a man known as William Bonney, aka Kid, aka William Antrim. There is proof that Henry McCarty and Joe McCarty were present when Catherine McCarty and William Antrim were married in Santa Fe.
There is no proof, only hearsay, about the life Brushy Bill described.

Anyone could have put anything they wanted on census records. As for Henry McCarty who's to say who the kid was that killed Cahill in Arizona was the same person ended up in New Mexico. You can't prove any of it. You can prove that someone going by all those aliases was prosecuted but not who he actually was. Only hearsay. Your dogs still don't hunt Jim ole boy!

lacowboy, "There is no proof that Oliver P Robert's didn't die as Brushy said and he took over his identity."
Are you sure Brushy said that Oliver P Roberts died? That statement is not found in "Alias Billy the Kid". Perhaps you referring to this statement in "Alias Billy the Kid", p. 98. "There is some reason to believe that he spent all his mature life impersonating one of his own relatives. This was the real Ollie Roberts, a cousin who was born in 1867, and ran away from home about l884, and was killed in the Indian Territory in a difficulty about some stolen horses."
There is documented proof that Oliver P. Roberts was born in 1879 to Henry Oliver Roberts and Sarah Elizabeth Ferguson, and a Van Zandt County marriage license dated 11 July 1909 for Oliver Roberts and Anna Lee.
The mythical cousin Ollie Roberts killed in the IT was obviously not Oliver P Roberts.

There is no way that you can prove that Brushy was not impersonating Oliver P Roberts for a time. If not why would he have changed his middle name or initial so often? Oliver P Roberts would have had no reason to do so.

In the Jameson's book "The Lost Interviews" Brushy speaks about a battle which took place in Mexico around June 1899 Brushy and around 30 cowboys fought and ran for 12 days, and on the 13th day they crossed the Rio Grande just below Del Rio. Brushy says "I had a cousin there on the Ranger force and he helped us with food." What cousin was he referring to? Can this cousin be researched?

Obviously, Texas Truth Teller repeats himself so much that I just scrolled down to the question you had, Missy. I almost get anxiety or something saying this but it must be said, I'm sorry that Lost Interviews is popular but it is a hoax. Jameson is not that hard to get a hold of, email/facebook/etc. but to answer your question, ehhh no way to research..... there is reason to believe that Brushy/Billy had a big family... i do too, but I see a lot of dead ends in that book, and many consider me to be a HARDCORE BRUSHY GUY but i don't even own Lost Interviews and the more I learn the more I hate it. I like your profile pic now, Missy!!! I want every one to find a cool pic on this group. I changed mine for a bit tho

I think TTT brings a bit more to the party than yourself. Everything is hearsay apart from the fact that brushy is a hico tourist attraction
