Has anyone heard of or know who Mr Duncan was?

I've seen a newspaper article which contains an interview with Mr Duncan where he says that the kid befriended him and also mentions a ranch called the castle. Think it was published about 3 weeks after the kids death.

That'd be this one: www.newspapers.com/clip/29476244/the_times/You might also want to buy a copy of 'The True Story of Billy the Kid' by Edmund Fable Jr on Amazon - it contains a lot of this info and is well worth a read. I think the newspaper story was syndicated at the time, so it appeared in various forms in various states. so do you think it's the same Mr Duncan? He states that the kid cared and looked after him and trusted him but I've never come across this name before?

Getting back to your post Mr Duncan (who perhaps isn't the same as the one you suggested) did call the kid McCarthy. I can't see why Mr Duncan had no first name?

So the advert that you posted for a livery and stable sale was for someone that never existed?

Duncan was made up then 2 posts later a real person.? In interview you would not describe yourself as Mr Duncan that's the language of someone who served someone. To me DUNCAN is the first name, friend and trusted allie of the kid just a surname missing ?

Came across this article from July 22nd 1881 whilst nosing about a couple of months ago, an excerpt of which reads: Would this be the first known mention of BTK being a McCarthy/McCarty? The next line in the article is a bit of a bombshell: In light of this line, maybe the Upson/Garrett book was an exercise in damage limitation and reputation management? The rest of the article is very interesting and well worth a read. The article mentions Billy being born near Springfield, but also mentions his father moving to Sherman Texas. Billy's father being linked to Texas is very interesting even if the article is made up or elaborated about Billy and his castle, I still wonder why he would add the details of Billy's father moving and living in Sherman Texas?

I got the book out. It just says that Duncan was the son of a distinguished former staff member on General Sherman's Staff and that Duncan was from Alamosa, Texas. And two me the Kid's castle sounds exactly like a building like the famous Torreon in Lincoln. I absolutely believe a Duncan met Billy the Kid because the publisher of all the articles was the same guy that wrote the first book and that's probably how he got a lot of his info. And in one article I remember reading but haven't found again, the Kid told that Duncan that he was from Texas. Not New York. Does anyone else remember an old article from 1881 or so where the guy says the Kid told him he was from Texas??? I kind of would like to have that.
