Sorry I don't have an answer for you. But that is one thing I never found strange because stuff like that happens all the time. But it is an interesting question. (in my own personal spiritual beliefs I believe these things happen not by accident but that there is some kind of formula to all the chaos that we see as random events, something we don't understand, but I don't believe everything happens for a reason or in pre-destiny and maybe it is just a small world AFTER ALL) I'd be interested in hearing more about it but I don't know that it would have any insignificance one way or another. I know I don't trust family trees much because amateurs build them incorrectly a lot of times and in Missouri every single person you meet says they were related to Jesse James. And that's not much exaggeration either. Hence if he had family in New Mexico maybe they claimed they were related to a famous person too. Just something to think about. He was probably related though and if he wasn't I believe the conversation got brought up that way, the way he said it did. A lot of good researchers on here though that could probably find out if they wanted to.

I have read that Morrison was a descendant of Lucien Bonaparte Maxwell, whose son Pete Maxwell owned Maxwell's Fort Sumner home where Garrett killed Billy the Kid in 1881. Is there any truth to this claim? I would find it amazing if the man who was seeking a pardon for the man who claimed to be Billy the Kid, was in fact related to one of the men who was said to be a witness to Billy's alleged death. Small World sometimes! I believe you are referring to p.14, "Alias Billy the Kid".
"Morrison himself was a direct descendant of Ferdinand Maxwell, brother of the famous Lucien Bonaparte Maxwell."
Maxwell and Morrison families lived in Randolph County, Illinois, in 1830.
