The Maxwell's lived in Ft. Sumner which I believe was Northeast of White Oaks. Not sure how far it was though which someone more knowledgeable than I could give you a better answer.

And the Maxwell's had 2000 acres of land so that would probably stretch to whiteoaks? Maybe that's why the letter writer thought the house was there.

Maybe that's why the letter writer thought the house was there. to stretch 2000 acres in 146 miles (if I'm right with my calculations in a metric system as I'm used), it would make a property the lenght of 146 miles and thinner than a soccer play ground, it just is very unlikely …

My mistake, the Maxwell's had 1,700,000 acres. Nearly 7000 square km

The Maxwell's house wasn't in Sumner but somewhere between Sumner and Vegas. Is this correct?

a significant legacy of the Civil War was the printing of vast amounts of money both legally and illegally..counterfeit notes appeared everywhere and BTK's associates were accused of passing them -Dolan had accused Billy Wilson and had himself been accused by a local Lincoln resident of doing the same before the House qickly went bankrupt after the LCW and became such a famous courthose/jail.. Banknotes stll functioned and the counterfeit 100 dollar note must have featured often in major transactions...

in 1876 at the battle of the greasy grass...the US soldiers were found to carry quantities of green paper with pictures on them. The indians assumed these were tokens for health safety and good fortune - they obviously didn't work so were discarded all over the battlefield...the soldiers had just been paid..

5th edition shinplasters 74-76 were a staple diet of currency past the demise of the kid. Hard and rugged notes were common tender, there was a complete lack of coins during and after the CW.

I can't create a post so this was the best option..Drew Gomber, researcher, historian, author and absolute authority on BTK..completely dismissed brushy's claims..another one sadly missed.
