Is there anyone in the entire world that can tell me the provenance or history on how this photo was verified to be Jesse James?

mckinley412:
If you can find a newspaper article "The Holt County Sentinel (Oregon, Missouri" Friday, Dec. 29, 1882, Page 5, it had a very good article on the Death of Jesse James and if I remember it talks about the picture.

Do you know anything about a Sworn Statement, October 26, 1948, by Joseph L. Hines, who was Jesse R. James, Jesse W. James first cousin where he states J. Frank Dalton was the real Jesse W. James?

nmjames, Interesting question. Dalton proclaimed he was Jesse Woodson James 19 May 1948. The 26 October 1948 timing is credible if Hines did provide a sworn statement. Dalton enlisted Brushy Bill Roberts and "Col." James R. Davis to support his claim. They were photographed at his bedside in New York.
Speculation: maybe Joe Hines knew Frank Dalton.
Jesse Woodson James had several James first cousins. A thorough search of census records might prove that Jesse Woodson James had a first cousin named Jesse R. James.
Is there any proof that Joe Hines was Jesse R. James? Thanks, TTT
