I don't have any info but I have heard this from somewhere else also. She stating in an interview in 1983 that her father didn't kill Billy the Kid. I am sure it's out there but this doesn't get discussed very much. I suppose the statement could have been proven incorrect and that's why its not discussed or her brother's got upset that she revealed that information and tried to squash any discussion I suppose. But I would think this interview would be more popular for discussion.

Yes, it is incorrect. She died many years before that date. There are a lot of false facts out there and it's hard to get any truth to these matters.

Elizabeth Garrett's story. Birth: Oct. 12, 1885 Lincoln County New Mexico, USA Death: Oct. 16, 1947 Roswell Chaves County New Mexico, USA Elizabeth was born blind with ophthalmia neonatorumon to famed lawman Pat Garrett and Apolinaria Gutierrez on the family ranch at Eagle Creek. She was probably named in honor of her aunt Elizabeth Ann Garrett. While residing in Uvalde, Texas, her father brought six year old Elizabeth to the Blind Institute in Austin on Sept. 15, 1892. She earned proficiency certificates in singing, piano, pipe organ and graduated on June 9, 1904. She received further musical training in New York and Chicago. Elizabeth was an accomplished teacher of voice, piano, and organ. She taught at the New Mexico Institute for the Blind (NMSBVI) at Alamogordo from 1907 until 1915 and was later vice president of the school's Board of Regents. Elizabeth wrote the school song and the New Mexico state song among many others. Early in her career, she gave concerts and small recitals to music clubs around the United States with a dramatic soprano voice. She sang popular, American and Spanish folk songs. Her Castilian accent was appreciated by Hispanic audiences. She was promoted variously as The Songbird of the Southwest, the Blind Mockingbird or Blind Nightingale. Elizabeth's death is a bit mysterious as there were no witnesses present. She was walking home during a electrical blackout in her city's business district. After crossing the street with her guide dog Tinka, She apparently tripped on the curb, fell and hit her head. At the dawn of the music record business, Elizabeth was a national star. She wrote lyrics and music for numerous published songs, which are listed at this link. Copy and paste the link in your search engine, then check the alphabetical list. composers-classical-music.com

I love this reading about peoples family history. It is all very interesting. Thanks TTT for all this information on the Garretts. Maybe a stupid question but would Mary Alice Roberts be any relation to the Oliver Pleasant Roberts family that Oscar Garretts wife? Just interesting that's all.

mike, Mary Alice Roberts, born 19 October 1916, in Vivian, Louisiana, was the daughter of Harry Clyde Roberts and Daisy Eursla Ferrell. Harry was a driller in the oil fields. Harry Clyde Roberts was born in Ohio, the son of Benjamin Franklin Roberts and Alice Teagarden, both of whom were born in Ohio.
Nothing indicates kinship with Oliver Pleasant Roberts.

It was my research and information from my memorial www.findagrave.com/memorial/15451674/elizabeth-garrett on her. Sloan, I apologize for failing to credit the posted information copied from FAG memorial 15451674. Commendable research. Additional info from Santa Fe New Mexican, 15 March 2015.
"In 1937, the state legislature voted to pay Garrett $50 per month for the rest of her life in return for the copyright to "O Fair New Mexico." Elizabeth had written the state song several years previously.
Find a Grave biographies are usually correct. There are 2 errors in information about Oliver Pleasant Roberts, FAG memorial 12809. In the heading, his original name is listed as William. Not true. No record has ever been found that shows the first name of Oliver P Roberts was William. That was Brushy's unsubstantiated claim. William Henry Roberts also appears on the second cemetery marker of Oliver P Roberts, replacing the marker that read Ollie L Roberts. Ollie is a common nickname for Oliver.
Information about his last wife, Malinda, is the other mistake. Malinda Elizabeth Murrell Hooper Allison Roberts Long did not die in 1948, for she was the informant who supplied the birth date and birth place of her husband when Ollie Roberts died in 1950, TX death certificate #58415. Malinda died 10 June 1958 in Temple, Bell County, TX, death certificate #31059. The informant was her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Weidner. Phoebe Lillian Allison married Walter J Weidner in Erath County 4 August 1949.
